During last week during the solar eclipse, I played this song while watching with my daughter. Perfect song to play

One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite movies of all time…David Bowie’s incredible song seals the deal.

In science fiction we often see the world unite to war against an alien threat. But here, there is no enemy but time and space. No battle except against despair.

For some reason this scene made me cry in the theater. Everyone cooperates without any personal interest just to rescue Mark. All the science and technology of the mankind to do something good. Adding the soundtrack of Starman by David Bowie was a masterful decision.

Situations where all mankind come together putting differences aside have always made me emotional.

I'd be hard-pressed to name four and a half minutes of any movie that I like more than this. It tells so much story with so little dialogue, the choice of song is perfect, and the fact that they used the WHOLE THING is even better. And I know it cut out a fair amount of the book, but it did it so well that, honestly, I think it's worth the tradeoff.

For me this scene was perfect, not only because of the choice of going for Mark, but specially for the agreement between China and USA, two rivals in some aspects working together in order to help, hope the world would be like that

Was watching this movie the day my son was born, throughout labour was singing this song over and over. When he finally came to greet us, I named him Mark.

Where some space movies are about glorifying the best of American potential, I felt like this film glorified human potential.

I know it's a movie, but imagine all we could achieve if we had a common goal, nothing could stop us

This film introduced me to David Bowie :)

Great sequence. Brilliant music and the whole thing made better by Sean Bean raising his eyebrows to Jeff Daniels - that small expression saying we have moved one step closer but there is an insane distance to go.

"533 days longer!? And you said yes to this!?"

"He would have done it for me, you know that.."

The greatest sequence ever filmed. Great david bowie music. Great acting. The absolute best of science. The absolute best of movies. People of different cultures and nations coming together for a common cause. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. This is what I wish real world was like.

I think this was the only time I've cried in a movie theater and it's not even a sad scene. I saw this movie with my brothers a couple of days after David Bowie's death, although I don't consider myself a die-hard fan of him either. I don't know, I just liked his music and I was really enjoying the movie, I've always liked space stories; or I was just enjoying going to the movies with my brothers again after so long. The truth is I couldn't say why that affected me so much, maybe it was that I simply didn't expect to hear this damn song at that moment. Lately I miss them, I see them less and less. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow.
