The Failed Ideology of Libertarianism - [Political Philosophy]

I am not a Libertarian, and neither are you.

The political ideology itself can be safely declared to be dead. We've finally realized the process of devolution which this viewpoint must inevitably face, making it impossible for anyone to believe it in good faith for anything more than a short while.

Anyone who calls themselves a "Libertarian" has either not taken their thought process to its logical conclusion, or in the case that they have, they no longer actually value the virtue of Liberty itself.

Let me know what you think of my idea of the devolution of Libertarianism.

Libertarianism IMO is the ideology for young guys that know the system is fucked, and want to go against it but without any negative stigma of something that could be considered "edgy"/"hateful" and have them ostrasized by their community.

I was swayed to be libertarian when i was 15 but I observed, adapted and grew and became a true libertarian by helping libertarians hate on other libertarians

"The two logical end states of Libertarianism are either cuckoldry or Fascism."
I have a really good feeling about this channel.

Libertarianism has one very useful function, it can attract people away from leftist ideology with a palatable alternative despite various levels of programing.

Most humans love their complete, unfettered "Freedom". But rarely do these people accept the necessary Responsibility attached to those Freedoms.

If libertarianism is not of Rothbardian or Hoppean tradition, it's weak.

This is actually a similar idea to what made me crawl out of my "libertarian" shell in my teenage years. I was presented with an idea (ironically in a youtube comment section of some video I cannot remeber) and someone had made and argument close to this: "In an ideal libertarian society, what is the safeguard to prevent a largely non-liberty focused group from immigrating to your nation and undoing the liberty maximization". This made me realize that in order to maximize liberty for a society at large, ironically, that same society must be willing to use tools that prevent or subvert liberty (like immigration control or deportation etc).

This leads to exactly what you outlined: libertarianism has to become either cuckoldry where your nation is completed replaced: ethnically, religiously, and most importantly for the libertarian: ideaologically. Or it becomes fascist.

I don’t think any of you understand libertarianism or it’s philosophers. It is not designed to give you the ideal world. It is recognizing humans natural state and creating a system to revolve around this.
Capitalism is just free trade and libertarianism is just natural social contracts brought to law.
Yes it has many problems and won’t accomplish the great wonders brought about by forced labor of the masses. But it allows you to succeed or fail on your own.
P.S. absolutely ZERO libertarian is okay with the banking system or the fiat. They are okay with loans and obviously interest is the only incentive to give a loan. None believe in the FED which regulates that interest and bails banks out for making bad investments.

What I hate most about libertarians, is that they all about selfishness except when you do something THEY don't like. Then it suddenly becomes about 'the greater good' and all that common destiny and obsession with harm nonsense.

So, if you're White, and want to identify as such while also defending the interests of your racial group, the libertarians complain about 'collectivism' despite it being the individuals choice to refuse individualism, that is their free right. Their own ideology forbids them from condemning this, but they do it anyway. Or perhaps it's better to say one of the inner contradictions of their ideology is that they're free - as individuals - to condemn it, but it's just a contradiction to do so.

The point being that they demand everyone else must be as individualistic as they are, and typically when people use their freedoms to NOT be liberals, said liberals resort to tyranny in order to force everybody - for the greater good - to be individuals and thus, libertarians.

I would frame the problem around the fact that Libertarians.. even the Mises guys, .. either ignore or handwave away the mass variances in intelligence, agency and resources between individuals living in a society bombarded by psych warfare tactics in commerce, government and media. It assumes and hopes for a better world with no reality check on how to get there, much less sustain it.. the politics of power will always come into play.

Any ideology can become intellectually crippling if it’s held too rigidly. Different situations call for different measures.

Maybe Libertarianism is understood differently by some. To me it means less government, and not having things forced down my throat. So what would you call that? I want to live a strong and meaningful life with family and friends. Help and support people of similar beliefs. Not be told by the State what to do. Or taxed and then "they" spend or waste it on stuff that should not be State controlled. Don't bother with any word salad mental gymnastics, weak or strong Libertarianism. Or mixing in the banking system. Hey, you want to bank with a big national bank and make them richer, go ahead, I just don't want MY taxes supporting their bail outs. Maybe we need to simplify and redefine what Libertarianism is. The whole Left and Right groups are also contradictory within. So if I don't want to support a foreign war, does that mean I'm not Libertarian because I don't want to help or "fight" for someone else's liberty? You can't help everybody, you can't save everybody, but we could at least clean up our own yards first.

A significant amount of individualist thinking comes from people intelligent enough to understand that they can engage in mutually beneficial cooperation without resorting to force, but not smart enough to understand that not everyone else can.
For a significant number of libertarians or anarchists, they _could_ have a successful society based on their principles if a group of like-minded people came together to do it... but it's their attempts to get everyone involved that are where the problems arise, and also why any philosophy that is against borders or exclusions is inherently doomed to failure.

My understanding is that Libertarians believe in concepts such as the Non-Agression Policy (NAP) not for the sake of maximizing liberty, but for the sake of maximizing justice. They believe that it is unjust to force someone to do something against his will, even if what that person is doing would limit his own freedom or the freedom of others. For example, a person is more free if he is not addicted to drugs or suffering from a curable mental disorder. We could increase the amount of total freedom by requiring addicts to go to rehab and forcing the mentally disordered to take their medication. However, libertarians believe it would be unjust to force a person against his will to go to rehab or take medications.

I don't think it is just about being apathetic and saying that as long as I got my freedom that's fine, and that guy over there can fight for his freedom if he wants it. Libertarians have fought for policies that increase individual freedom of all citizens, however, some of these efforts inflict great damage on the community as a whole and end up limiting even individual liberty. For example, looking the other way on illegal immigration is good for businesses, illegal aliens, and consumers in the short term as it lowers production costs and consumer prices. However, in the long run it leads to the type of chaos that Victor Davis Hanson has witnessed in the Central Valley.

At least minarchists and anarchists are honest. They have well-defined, if utopian (dystopian?) goals. However, libertarians are all over the map with some in favor of abortion to support the rights of the mother, and others opposing it to support the rights of the unborn. What do libertarians think of eminent domain? How dare they force that guy to sell his house so they can run a freeway through there. Meanwhile, the same libertarian is planning a cross-country trip that would be impossible without the judicious use of eminent domain. Not to mention maybe living in a place like Phoenix which doesn't exist except for dams that were created in part by kicking people off their land. What do libertarians think of copyrights? Of trademarks? Of childrens' rights vis-a-vis their parents? Libertarianism is too simplistic an ideology to intelligently answer any of those questions in a cohesive way.
