Like the man said, if it is just us in the universe, that seems like an awful waste of space...

I like to think of the dark forest theory where there are many advanced civilizations but everyone is scared of eachother so no one would interact with one another

My favourite metaphor is the idea that its like two people on the same contient, at different locations and times.

Sorta like the aliens in another life. They’ve become so advanced that they kill whoever they feel is undeserving

I imagine the people on Sentinel Island having a conversation similar to this, not knowing that they’re purposefully isolated from the rest of the world……. by the rest of the world.

We are definitely not alone in the universe. The damn thing is pretty much infinite.

loneliness is as terrifying as being in a place where everyone is hiding, because you don’t know what they are hiding from

“Y’know, these guys seem pretty cool. Let’s let them join u-… wait a second…. Um, second thought, let’s give them a couple millennia”

I recently read (listened to) Three Body Problem and the dark forest theory has quickly become my preferred explanation. Not that i want it to be true, it's horrific, but it's a really intuitive one. If it's true, we already commited suicide by blasting radiowaves into space for a century and are now just waiting for someone to take the first shot in fear of us doing the same.

Me personally I like the idea that we just lucked out and have developed a civilization relatively early on the galactic scale, and the reason why we don't see anyone out there is because there's hardly anyone to see, if at all.

Best explanation I've heard is that because space travel is so difficult, advanced species never leave their home system. Instead, they spend the bulk of their time in virtual reality, where they have full control and anything could happen.

We can't be the only ones in the universe. There can't just be one perfect spot in the universe for alien life.

The fact we are still here makes the possiblity of other life existing less scary. If they know we are here and haven't wiped us out yet I'd say that's a good sign.

We're either behind the great filter or passed it, both are equally terrifying

Humans: Where is everyone?

Aliens billions of light years away: Where is everyone?

Judging by how much time the universe has ahead of it I wouldn’t be surprised if we where that ancient alien civilization

Well I think it's more terrifying to not be alone in the universe

I dont understand why being alone in the universe is equally terrifying to not being alone and with unimaginable alien lifes

If there really is an alien civilization out there, they're probably evolving at a much slower pace
