Bosses expect employees to go above and beyond, but don't pay them above and beyond.

Thanks for noticing the struggles of teachers. Financially, it is such a hardship. Then we are required to find so much of the classroom needs. In my school, We even have to buy our own paper to make copies for homework and other class work.🤦🏽‍♀️.

I have amazing parents and students. When you get one that is “unmotivated and unruly” … they can abuse the success rate of the room.😢

Be as loyal to companies as they are to you. You are disposable, treat them as disposable too. Never stop looking for other work, even if you're comfortable with your current job. You will never know when they're going to fire you until it's too late.

Almost all professions are experiencing this, I remembered back then around 14 years ago when I was working my salary was big for a single guy I could support myself and my family. Now my profession offers the same salary but I can barely pay utilities and eat regularly let alone support anyone else aside from myself.

Teachers are treated like crap, by the students, by the parents, and by the administrative members of their schools. And now there are some places in America in which teachers are getting paid less than fast food workers. Yet they are expected to provide basic necessities for their students like pencils, paper, tissues, feminine products, even bandaids. Out of their pocket. Sure they can claim part of it on their taxes, but you still end up with people being paid only slightly more than minimum wage, living paycheck to paycheck, expected to help support packs of 20-30 students in their classrooms. And on top of that, in many places, teachers must spend time and money to continue their own education and take mandatory classes to keep up with current trends, after being treated like shit for 10 hours a day and then going home to grade papers for another four hours a day. It is ridiculous.

If my choices are: be broke while working 60 hrs/week with shitty customers, bosses, and coworkers, vs be broke while staying home and doing whatever I want.... Why wouldn't I choose the latter??

And before anyone says "nOt ALl jObS" - yes, I'm well aware. I've been fortunate enough to have some really stellar bosses and work environments over the years. However... I was still broke!! Today, I'm broke, but I'm also self-employed, have ultimate time freedom, and my work is *barely* work (I'm a full time pet sitter). And I'm the happiest I've ever been. No, I can't afford much of anything, but I also don't face ANY of the downsides of a typical 9-5 job, and that, frankly, is way more valuable to me than money 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm in Canada and I just don't get what the point of 80% of jobs are anymore. Entry level jobs pay the SAME salary as they did 10 years ago. Nobody I know will ever own a home, myself included. We just slave away 40-50 hours a week to barely scape by while watching the grocery+telecoms+C-level executives rake in impossibly large sums of money.

I'm 35 and just applied to go back to University. If I'm going to be broke, I might as well be broke doing something I enjoy. Done spending my life making some rich douche even richer.

I feel like not enough people are seeing the negative effects of how corporate greed has been negatively affecting the last several generations (since 1980's).

I did what I was told would lead me to a better life...went to school and got a higher education. And yeah it did kind of help. It put me a step or two ahead of retail work.

But my job still doesn't pay properly, I have trouble finding other relevant work in my field, and I'm not valued as a person or as an employee. And these companies wonder why everyone seems like they've checked out or only do the bare minimum. You used to be able to support an entire family on a single salary. I can barely support myself right now and I am trying to support my parents too.

Depending on the day I either feel like completely checking out and giving up, or I feel like still attempting to scrape by. But nothing I do feels like it's going to get me out of the hole I'm in. It's incredibly frustrating and I wish there was some kind of collapse that would usher in better treatment for everyday people. We're treated like resources and it sucks. I didn't think I would be going into my 30's like this.

A recent graduate here. I’ve applied for hundreds of jobs. The only one I managed to get was a mind numbing job that everyone hates and they gave me the job on the spot because they can’t keep staff. This was a zero hour contract and gave me no stability at all. Im currently on universal credit because I lost my apartment due to financial instability and I’ve had to move back in with my parents because there’s no jobs around and that’s not even mentioning the fact that wages in ANY job don’t even pay the rent these days

As a teacher, I agree 100%. People who teach dont get enough pay and even recognition. Faculty who dont teach and do admin and research stuff get more benefits and attention. Teachers are also afraid of students and parents. Teachers are also fired for disciplining students. Its a lose lose for everyone

As a med student, it feels like i have been burned out for so long. People are constantly competing against each other just to get into med school, and med school itself can be taxing. Then we compete for spots for residency and we take a lot of tests. It can get tiring.

Me and my wife work as paramedics on a private ambulance and get paid pretty close to minimum wage and then the hours they tried to demand and hold overs. I'm a little grateful It pushed me to give up on EMS and honestly even really helping society/people as a job at all and now I make what i made in an entire 13 hour shift in an hour or two. We still work once in a while just because we do want to help but jobs that keep society functioning don't get paid enough to live let alone support a family and then people wonder why the jobs society needs the most dont have workers.

My sixth period freshman class is one of the worst I've had in 20 years. In trying to glean why, I looked at all of their profiles. Only one or two live with both parents (and are well behaved), almost all live with one parent (usually the mother), and two have RESTRAINING orders against one of their parents (yes, some have restraining orders against their mothers, not just fathers). If you are 14 years old and your parents are SO BAD that by this age you have to have restraining orders against them and live with aunts/uncles (or foster care), it's no wonder these kids are falling apart at the seams.

It's not just that teacher wages haven't kept up with inflation, but most jobs haven't kept up. I have a biology degree and I'm looking for a job in my area. I found a lab analyst position that requires you have a 4yr science degree. Starting pay? $13/hr to $20/hr. Literally not enough for me to pay my bills. So what happens? I don't apply for the job I'm qualified for and I'm forced to look for something else all the while becoming severely disillusioned.

In the case of teacher wages in the US especially, states are not providing the funding necessary to cultivate engaging learning. Many teachers are buying supplies for their students. It's depressing how poorly the education system is run.

A reason that I refuse to teach primary school is because of belligerent parents and how holding them accountable is seen as tarnishing the school.

When people treat each other like shit without letting up, can you blame people for being burned out? Kindness and empathy are needed now more than ever yet are the least practiced today! Very sad indeed!

School nurse here for a behavioral program. Y'all.... the kids this year are wild. Had a 4yo try to curb stomp another 4 yo. Had another 4yo tell me all aboit Pennywise and Five Nights at Freddy's because he "watches them on the youtube!". It's wild and the teachers are quitting in droves.

I don't think this is failure, I think this is deliberate sabotage.
