Gas stations and grocery stores say they are hiring, but they never give their workers 40 hrs a week, because they don't want to offer benefits or pay overtime. I don't feel sorry for them unless they are willing to give at least 40 hrs/week.

People are looking for better jobs. This pandemic has really opened people's eyes. The majority of the people that I know that haven't gone back to work are going to school, starting a business, or looking for work with better compensation. They are not all just "sitting on the couch."

"Some Americans are still not going to work, even though there are openings in retail."
Oh wow. What a waste. Those poor companies.

There's also no dignity in being overworked and under appreciated

If 15 an hour is so great how come no apartment complex wants to rent to you. Because you don't make enough.

I like listening to your show Dave but, this segment seems out of touch with reality and disconnected with society right now.

Most of these places that have “hiring” signs that are extremely understaffed is because their still paying like it’s 2009

The problem is that companies want to pay minimum wages. After taxes, transportation expenses and bills you’re left with nothing. Companies need to pay more.

I think he underestimated how much some people detest their jobs...also it is a time where people can think about what a meaningful career looks like in a remote working environment.

For my entire life I have lived off Disability and Part-time work. I officially got my first Full-time job working from home making 41k a year. I went from making 25k to 41k. I also earned my insurance producers license and I go to Seminary Full-time. I also have started my baby steps. The Pandemic for me was a great thing. The video interviews gave people the chance to see me as a person and not just my disability.

Just because there are “ jobs hiring” doesn’t mean that the quality of the job is good.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but in my area if you're lucky enough to get a call back regarding a job you're offered low pay with very few hours. They also expect you to have open availability making it impossible to work around your kids schedule or find a second job to supplement your first job. Not everyone is lazy and don't want to work. A lot of people are trying to find a job that not only is fair pay, but works you enough hours.

In some parts of the country, 30K a year is a poverty wage. The take home is probably around 22K. Rent for a studio in the least desirable area is where I live is 1400. People have decided that it's not worth it.

Nahh, I think that the problem is MOST jobs today don’t pay living wages, especially if you are grown and got wife, kids, and other major bills. They need to pay people a lot more for their valuable time

Many people left jobs who treated them like trash while being underpaid and overworked. People who spent time with families during the shutdown realized what was more important including their health. This is another reason why most people don't want to go back to working for someone else's dream and they are going out to start their own business.

I disagree with the notion that you can work 40 hours a week and still go to school full time because most college classes happen during working hours. It’s more likely to work full time and go to class part time because night classes are not an option for all majors.
