Personally, I take 3000 IU at bedtime and 3000 IU when I get up with my other supplements. I would like to share something with you. At that dosage, if you have any warts on your body, they will dissolve and disappear. For the longest time I only took 4000 IU each day. And I had this little wart on the side of my finger that would not go away. I upped my vitamin D to 6000 IU, and it actually disappeared. Another good benefit of getting enough vitamin D in to you.
