How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

I love hearing Alex "just talk" I think that's where the best content is. Leave the editing, leave the transitions, love the talking

I realized something when you talked about happiness. All of my friends and family tell me that "All you think about is your business and the gym" "You are going to become sad". And I never really do anything for myself to "make me happy". I am working around 3 hours a day on my business, still in school and working out 2 hours a day. I never really anymore hang out with my friends. But wierdly, I am the happiest I have ever been. And I think that it connects to what Alex said about "If you stop trying to become happy you will become happy".

Start by solving all your problems. Then use what you learned to help other people solve their problems. Through that journey your purpose will show itself.

I never ever listen to something over an hour and even more rare I listen to it on normal speed. I listened to every second of this on normal, it’s that good. Appreciate the wisdoms shared here! 🔥💥 gold!

I believe there is only ONE reason each one of us watches Alex's Content. A reason built-in to the core of human nature ---- "The Desire to be GREAT".

"That just most people don't know how to work that hard." is the single greatest piece of advice from this entire conversation.
I really hope more see that

This is GOLD. I love seeing this side of Alex. His philosophy and frameworks for making complex problems seem so simple is so fascinating to watch/listen.

This video really made me rethink my approach to finding purpose. I love the point about not obsessing over happiness as a goal. The real lesson is that meaningful work and consistent effort bring joy, not the pursuit of happiness itself. Thanks for the insightful content

When you obsess about happiness, you just think about yourself all day! Wow! Powerful!

"thinking about yourself all day, how useless" reminds me the Dr.K vid I saw recently, where he said the brain looks/acts the same when you are depressed as when you are thinking about yourself, like its the same food for thought. Cheers from Santo Domingo.

I'm genuinely glad you uploaded this as raw as it is especially for this topic. The pauses I believe were essential.

It’s amazing to see how philosophy has helped Alex achieve so much success. I also feel like he’s spiritual but just doesn’t admit it to appeal to more people

"Working is the goal. Working as hard as you can, and learning how hard you can work, and how well you can work, and how right you can make things, and how well you can do them."

Amazing.

I was suicidal for the whole high school and even after that for 2 years. I was a procrastinator and without a doubt a loser. Depressed all the time with no joy for life. Met some strangers from Spain and their energy actually gave me life, their perspective shifted my perspective from top to bottom. Once I stopped thinking about being happy and started actually working, improving myself, just let things be things, one day at night, I thought and realized that I wasnt suicidal for a while and I was enjoying my life more than ever. So, definitely dont chase happiness because you wont have it. I couldnt agree more
