It's so amazing how Europeans had the wonderful ability to discover things that were well known in the region. I'm from Zimbabwe and one of the biggest tourist desitnations there are the "Victoria Falls" discovered by one David Livingstone. Except, of course, there were people living in the area when he "discovered" these falls and these people had a name for the falls. "Mosi oa tunya" meaning the smoke that thunders. Of course that didn't matter to him, and he basically named them after his queen. The city with the Great Zimbabwe structure from which the country got it's name (HomeTeam history covered the structures in an earlier video) _(in short _*_Madzimbabwe_*_ or _*_Dzimba dzemabwe_*_ - houses or buildings made of stone)_ was also named "Fort Victoria".

Africa (and the rest of the world I suspect) is full of examples of how things were renamed and the history retold upon "discovery" by a European explorer.

Of course, there is a lot of corruption and perversion in telling the history of North Africa. As a half Moroccan, thank you so much for taking the time to tackle this situation from an African historian's perspective!

Absolutely…spent years studying this phenomenon in the history of both Africa and the indigenous peoples of the “new world.” The line between preconceived stereotyping and deliberate falsehood is a thin one. It is still with us, perhaps most disturbingly in the profound differences in medical care. This includes the still prevalent notion that children of color (stupid term…what “white” children are colorless…another good example of the absurdity of racism) have higher pain thresholds and in the mortality rates among pregnant women and their infants. It’s impact on the social and biological sciences continues to do so much damage. I’m 71…when I began I was in my early 20s. There has been small steps forward, but I fear it will take constant vigilance on all our parts. If we could just change what all children are taught it would make such a difference. This was as always an excellent video.

I am a black artist and I want to be labeled as that, there is so much beauty and glory that I stand on from my ancestors. One of the things I have had a grudge against for a long time.I how the west invented abstract art. When in reality Africa has been making abstract art since the beginning of time. In the case of Picasso, the revere his lines and creation as something he created and they don't want to credit that those lines and form come from African masks. I could go on for days.I am glad that this chanel puts things into perspective.Amazing work.

Sudan’s pyramids are similar to ancient Egypt’s yet there was no blacks in North Africa according to them

These videos are great for expanding what I know of the world in areas that tend to be both overlooked and viewed with significant biases. It's a shame that 'the canon of history' ignores so much.

You handle these topics well. It is important that that anthropologists and explorers of the colonial era be brought under scrutiny. For far too long their work has gone unquestioned because it fit into the colonial paradigm and Eurocentric worldview, so we appreciate you shinning light on these issues. Please continue to do so. Your research is necessary and appreciated.

You should edit and include a picture of the Rock Art at Tassili that was named “The White Lady of Aouanrhet” so people can understand how crazy the title was. The name was changed to “Running Horned Woman”.

You are doing amazing work. I want to become a “unorthodox” historian and write a new school curriculum to teach African people (continental and diasporic because all of us are reading from their books. I’d love to learn more from your findings!

Great video as usual Home Team . Of course the manipulation of African History by Europeans is a given. Fortunately we have educating and empowering resources like you to help set the records straight. Please continue your journey!

I'm reminded of a speech Chimamanda Ngozi Adechi (forgive if misspelled) have at a museum opening in Germany about what is classified as ethnic and why, and how Germany pressed and condemned other European nations to give back the treasures stolen from Africa while saying nothing of their own colonial past. Looking forward to this
