I’m Native American. I just hope there’s still a lot of us around and continue to be around. My grandpa was full blood native and my grandma wasn’t but I’m happy to say I got a lot of native blood in me. Love y’all have a good day

Imagine Aliens came down destroyed 70% of humanity then told the rest of us now you just live here, were in charge and you do as we say. Thats how Natives feel.

There's millions of Natives South of the US, unfortunately many don't recognize, claim, or even know they're Indigenous.

In the 17 century experts says they were anywhere from 15-20 million Native Americans. By the 1920’s, there were less than 200, 000.

Someone needs to explain to Joe the difference between genocide and pandemic.

I'm a result of the 10 percent that didn't die from diseases. That's crazy to think about

People also don't understand that the native genocide was 6x worse than all other genocides combined

Hello! Just wanted to remind some people in the comments that while the Native population went down 90% due to smallpox, the continuous erasure and murder by the U.S government was/is still genocide! The U.S still forced natives on to reservations (which were designed to starve and wipe us out), massacred innocent women and children in their own camps, kidnapped children and sent them to boarding schools where many were killed, and so much more! The smallpox epidemic may have contributed largely to the decline in population, but the U.S government also helped lower the population to 2%.

Joe needs to talk about this more, Natives are owed so much more than the tiny corrupt reservations

Genocide isn't the word. Plague is more like it.

I see a lot of deflection in the comments. Never like owning up to your cruelty

I highly doubt it was 90%. How is it that we natives are still the majority in the north, central, and South Americas.

"Colonial weaponizing of smallpox against Native Americans was first reported by 19th-century historian Francis Parkman. Parkman came across correspondence in which Sir Jeffery Amherst, commander in chief of the British forces in North America in the early 1760s, discussed its use with Col. Henry Bouquet, a subordinate on the western frontier during the French and Indian War."

I have a hard time believing that only 11 pigs were ever brought into the country.

And someone need to explain to him that maybe it was 20 or 30%, the average death rate for smallpox. There is no evidence of the 90%.
