Shout out to the Yaris!! The amount of them you still see on the road that are over 20 years old is astonishing

Got myself a Cat C Aygo 8 years ago (2005 model) as a little run about for when I'm not on my motorbike. Best car ever! It's very basic compared to some of the cars I've owned, seems to fog up inside all winter and I've had to replace a few back boxes over the years which were only about 30 quid each. I'll be getting another when Betty finally gives up the ghost 😁

I have an Aygo on a 58 plate and have been won over by it. Can't get less than 43mpg, no matter how hard I push it or use the aircon. Nudges 65mpg when driven carefully. 0-60 closer to 12 seconds unladen. Great fun little runabout.

I've owned my Smart ForTwo diesel for 11 years, with a gentle right foot, I can achieve over 80mpg, it's not fast, 0 to 60 eventually, but it's got a good sized boot, the front passenger seat folds down flat for larger items, it's a deceptively spacious car inside, suspension is a bit firm, I've had a front spring snap after hitting a pot hole, rather ironically whilst on my way to MoT, dpf filter went at 70, 000 miles, the temperature sensor went at 125, 000 miles, luckily this all came under warranty, I also had to replace the front discs and pads at the same time, apart from that, Bridgestone tyres are best for the rear lasting around 25000 miles, (the Continental tyres supplied when new last around 16000 miles), the front tyres lasted over 100, 000 miles, no road tax, cheap running costs, doesn't really use oil or water, last week I had to replace the glow plugs, cost came in at less than £200 at the main dealer.

Admittedly I've owned my car since it was 5 months old so paid over £1000 for it, but because the press are knocking diesels and the public, like lemmings are listening, Smart diesels are becoming relatively cheap although I wouldn't expect to find one with less than 100, 000 miles on the clock at that price but they are a well built sturdy car for the money

My 2003 Skoda Octavia estate has 130 BHP, 0-60 9.5 secs, 53-55 mpg (indicated, actually a couple of mpg less) generally doing 8-16 mile trips on B roads. I do not hang around. On a recent 40 mile each way trip, mostly doing 50 -70 mph I saw an indicated 63 mpg by the end. The car (which looks a wreck) never ceases to amaze me.

Was nice to see the Colt in here. I have the 1.5 diesel cz2 and it's great on fuel and very reliable.

I had a silver 2008 Mazda2 TS2 as my first car. Never cost me anything bar regular service and mot for 3 years. Felt quicker than the quoted 12.9s to 60 and very fun to drive on country roads due to low weight you mentioned & stiff suspension. Got 42mpg average across my ownership and would get 50 in ideal conditions! Miss it regularly 🤍

Bought a Skoda Fabia last year as a second car and the mpg isnt the worst. Get around 50mpg when driving sensibly but usually more around 39 because awfully steep around where I live.

Thank you for that, really interesting. As it happens, I own a 2006 Yaris Mk2 1.0, with the same engine as the Aygo/C1. I paid £995 on eBay for it. Only reason I chose a Yaris rather than Aygo/C1 is that it's a little more 'upmarket' than the Aygo. That is, for example, the doors shut with a 'thunk', rather than a clang. Economy, as a run around with a fairly moderate right foot, is an easy 54/55 mpg. On a recent 200 mile trip, on A roads, keeping to about 60 ish mph, the mpg was just over 60mpg.
Well satisfied with the car. In 2 years ownership, it's never failed me, doesn't rattle or squeak, and it's comfortable. Reason why it went for £995 is that the colour is red, and as usual with red..., there's some lacquer peel here and there.
Thanks again for putting up this video.

I have a 2002 Citroen Xsara (not the picasso) 2.0 HDI and have been averaging around 65-70mpg when I drive carefully, not a single issue with the car, love it

Owned that generation of fiesta, cooling fan often goes wrong (did with mine) and the reverse gear can get worn easily. Fun to drive and v good with fuel, good first car

Well, that was really useful! Thanks. Smugly, I have a zero-tax rated Aygo with the continuous auto transmission. Put the rear seats down and the carrying space is surprisingly large. Built to last. Sip, sip, sip ...

I'd rather pay for petrol than have to spend time having to plug a car in to charge in the middle of winter when it's hammering down with sleet.

I've got a 62 plate C1 with 94k miles on it. In the last year alone its gone through 4 tyres, burnt out its own clutch, gear selector had play in it causing the syncros in 1st gear to go and the exhaust bracket rusted away. Otherwise it is a brilliant little car, especially if you get the higher equipt models

Great video and as you said cars at 2k would be awesome, I am hoping to buy a diesel estate in October (I live and work outside of the Ulez zone. Peace 😊 🙏🏿
