The life of a local doctor was cut tragically short when she suffered a stroke last week. Only one woman could bring all the people in this hallway together, with her favorite flower in hand: sunflowers. Dr. Maddie Giegold's adventurous life was cut short suddenly, just five days before completing her residency.

I had a stroke at age 34 during the night. A long road to recovery … but I made it.
Age now is 76.

I knew Maddie, she was a great doctor and person in general. We were lucky we had her for as long as we did but it wasn't nearly long enough.

man, her coresidents sobbing in the hall... that's just devastating. i'm a surgeon and i cannot, cannot imagine having to witness a walk of honor for my coresident in the very hospital in which we trained. residency is like a 3-8 yr long boot camp. you're pushed mentally, physically, emotionally to the brink, and no one really knows what it's like except your brothers and sisters in the trenches with you. that sort of bond is forever. to have worked with someone, studied with someone, scrubbed with someone, laughed and cried and ranted and vented with someone for all those years... to be on the very brink of getting out of residency and starting your life as full-fledged doctors, and then to have her suddenly go down like that... it feels so incredibly unfair. in some senses her life was just about to start.

My aunt was a ball of sunshine and energy like this woman. She passed suddenly from a stroke at 41. Years later her 2 older sisters (my mom and other aunt) were diagnosed with A-fib, which is likely what led to her stroke. If you're having heart palpitations or feel like your heart sometimes skips a beat, please get it checked out. 🙏

This is so very sad. What a loss to her community, friends & family. Her family was so generous to donate to someone else.

What a great loss for her family, friends, colleagues, and patients. Thirty two is far too young to die. Her final gift to others was very generous.
