Formerly incarcerated woman, released under the CARES Act, fears being sent back to prison

After 16 years in prison, Gwen Levi was released on home confinement under the CARES Act. Now, she fears she will be sent back after the pandemic.

During a congressional hearing, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, raised concerns about sending people back to prison, especially those who followed the rules.

Of the 24,000 prisoners who were allowed to go home, 151 – less than 1% – have violated the terms of their home confinement and three have been arrested for new crimes.

"This highlights how effective home confinement can be," Grassley said.

We agree with her and it should be done on a case by case basis. Every situation is different, each person has responds differently.

Only reason MOST are in prison to begin with is they take plea deals because can't afford a lawyer. The system would grind to a half if everyone demanded a trial. I was in prison (ashamedly) and deserved it. Met alot of other people who didn't deserve to be there except they were poor and state wanted their labor.

I really hope she gets to stay free!
She already done 16 years.... you wouldn’t even get 5 years over here in Germany for this kind of crime!

Unfortunately she is being returned to prison because she missed a phone call from her PO. She was in class at the time and her PO knew it.

I declare, in the name of Jesus, that she will be able to remain free and uplift her community after the pandemic ends. And it is so, In Jesus name. Amen🙌🏽

This poor woman has paid her debt to society. Do the right thing and parole her.

That’s ridiculous! If she’s still abiding with the terms of probation than there is no reason to put her back in prison. It costs more to taxpayers money to keep her in prison! She’s an asset to society!

I understand people having to serve their time ... but what kind of parole or probation officer would do this?🤦🏿‍♂️ obviously a miserable one that shouldn't have this job

FYI: Gwen was recently arrested for breaking a parole violation... She missed one phone call from her probation officer while she was in a computer class. This is B.S.

This is definitely a successful situation and this woman NEEDS to be kept in her hometown where she can implement the positive change and growth that she exemplifies. PLEASE give her a chance. THIS is the whole purpose of rehabilitation. 🤗🧡🙏

They put this woman back in jail for missing a phone call from her parole officer. She was in a computer class to better herself, the parole officer knows full well where she was but says “she could’ve been robbing a bank” He knows she want doing anything to violate her parole but is determined to send her back to jail on a technicality !!! It’s so unfair and unjust, the parole system is a big joke. I hope her story gets traction so that she can be

This should be a case by case. But even if a sentence is reduced, depending on the crime, some sort of punishment should be enacted.

She too old did her city. People always feeding lies and false narratives. Been traveling thru baltimore over 20 years the city looks better than the early 2000's also almost every major city had an upgrade. I seen groups go and invest into plenty of these cities on the east coast

I'm looking at this as a set up for disaster. How is it that they didn't tell these people their have to return? Do they really think most will? Who's be wrong? Will they be going to a halfway house or wear and alarm it actually be tied back into the same prison they were discharged from?
Perhaps you guys can look deeper into this one.

The one person who’s praying for the pandemic never leaves at least until her sentence is over.

This is just ridiculous. The Judge could have said no and let her stay out.
