Andrew, thank you for this unbox and first look. My first impressions, way too many misses here for 2022, for a company like Microsoft, you expect far better. This, and the Pro 9, and the Studio 2 Plus, would be hard NO'S!. There are far better options on the market at this or less price points. I will watch your full reviews, of course, and, from my standpoint, be objective. For as much watch hours as you get on Microsoft products, they should provide review units, no question, and should provide you full press access to events and staff. Thanks for your hard work. The webcam footage I thought looked surprisingly good for 720p…

Just got the i7 32/1Tbyte 15” version and it is very swish coming from a 15” Surface Book 2 🙂

Great video and spot on with the praise and comments. Microsoft is definitely in need for an upgrade. I have always liked the trackpad and keyboard and the screen is still okay. Those bezels, well it is as it is. The only way consumers will let Microsoft know this is a bigger deal for them the sooner the changes can be expected. The color really comes through on the video. The 720p camera and sound quality are, in my opinion, very acceptable for a video call. If you have a 1080p it will need a slightly higher bandwidth and when I am in zoom calls I see way too many people using slow internet speeds and their picture does not look very good at all. They generally turn off their camera and their sound is constantly breaking up. I would look for the 15", will see if they will drop some test units. Oh and hey Andrew: Great Thumbnails!! Especially for sleepy head here.... lol

An okay unit. Mediocre 720p camera was fairly good for this but a 1080p camera should have been used. Mics sounded good. User upgradeability is an illusion since you have to take it to Microsoft techs to do upgrades. Users should be able to upgrade these. Use of proprietary SSD's that are hard to find probably only at Microsoft at a premium is kind of silly. Microsoft should make these units user upgradeable with easy to get parts. Great "First Looks" review. It is nice to see what these manufacturers offer even though I do not always agree with their approaches. Your honest reviews demonstrate clearly what they do and that is great.

Unfortunately microsoft does not offer real value in its laptops and expect people pay them just for the sake of brand.

Microsoft could have increase the display size from 13.5" to a 14" inch and make bezel small at the same body form factor. Could have been excellent.

And why Microsoft don't want to add either USB C or SD card reader in right side of laptop.

I just ordered the 13.5" sage for personal use, having used a 15" Surface Laptop 5 for work (and love it). I won't be using the camera on my sage, so don't care about the 720p. The hoopla about the large bezel is pure marketing, folks. You only care about the bezel size because you've been conditioned to by these corporations. Bottom line, always buy what suits you, and always take other people's opinion as simply that - their (irrelevant) opinion. Good video.

It appears that amd variants are fewer. I have a 2020 Envy 15" 360 (watched your video and that helped make my decision) and might like a 16" amd version as a replacement.

This feels like a refresh to keep parts in production for corporate contracts. HP, Dell, and Lenovo mid-range models blow this away.

Wish it had AMD (the other one). The Verge showed /last year's/ AMD model had 3 more hours of battery life vs its 7 while it's still just trying to match that multicore performance last year, and this year AMD is on 5nm and brought RDNA2 to IGPs, so the advantages are more pronounced and disadvantages less so (mostly barely just gets beaten on single core). Let alone how much the M2 beats the Intel and the prices for the same RAM/storage are pretty close.

From what I can see, there are more negatives to the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (2022) than there are positives so would I get this? Probably not and I'm being nice about it. There are certainly better options out there especially in 2022! Excellent first unboxing video review Andrew!! 👍😁
