The Night King and the Night's King are different people.

So the prequel series will cover the 'true' origin of the White Walkers. So the show version is NOT the first Night King. The cave scene implies this to be the case as well, as the Night King there has a beard. So maybe the show version of the Night King IS in fact the one from the lore. Which gives insight as to his motivations in the show. And the hints where there, the black armor which resembles that of the Night's Guard. The raven skull emblem on his neck and the fortress emblem within it.
