Stoicism is an ancient philosophical school of thought that has had a big impact on individuals throughout history. At its core, Stoicism teaches the importance of mastering one's emotions and finding inner tranquility amidst the chaos of life. It encourages individuals to focus on what is within their control and accept what is not. Stoics believe in cultivating virtues such as wisdom, courage, justice, and self-discipline, viewing them as the key to a virtuous and fulfilling life #shorts

Mr YDharma, this is an interesting and good concept, a form of self-reflection that the West adopted following the Enlightenment period; since then it has an ideal to strive towards. A quote that I just found by Aurelius, "waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be One." This quote goes with what you said, focusing on what is in our own control, and building ourselves to that stoic ideal of man.

My favorite author gifted me that book. I was dying and didn't know it. My spinal cord was being strangled by my spine. I still have yet to read it though. When I was about 7 I wanted to be Spock from Star trek. Being stoic was something I tried to teach myself very young. Fascinating how life can teach you without you even realising it. I've had friends tell me they can see when it happens to me. It's like a light switch is activated in me. I just wish that it came more naturally than it does though.

Absolutely. Stoicism is the most important moral system the West ever developed. Being homegrown, I think it's more in sync with the Western mind and emotions than Buddhism, which is very similar in many ways.
Marcus Aurelius is considered one of Rome's 5 greatest Emperors. If you can be an enlightened Emperor, you're enlightened.
BTW: Marcus Aurelius was a lifelong friend of Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi. Their mothers met when they were both babies. They grew up together.

I admire Eastern philosophy. A person can be content in the room with nothing in it. Versus Western ways, if you don't have a home fully furnished and the latest electronics you are miserable.

I like your videos, but this one has a mistake. You should have said Zeno of Citium.

But is it rooted in self reliance? In other words, where does the strength of self control come from??………
