INTJ and INFJ: Se Inferior (Extroverted Sensing)

The fourth function in your cognitive stack is known as the Inferior function. This function tends to be an area where we store our insecurities, but it is also an opportunity for growth and a vacation from ourselves. In this episode, we talk about how Extroverted Sensing (Se) presents in the fourth position (For the INTJ and the INFJ). We also cover topics like projections, insecurities, and blind spots. These patterns of mental processes can manifest in a variety of ways that can hinder our ability to be our best selves and impact our relationships.

Physical activity, engaging my Se, I find it to be more meditative than trying to sit quietly. INTJ

I'm an INTJ and yes, this description for Se inferior is very accurate. My biggest weaknesses stem from the fact that I'm rarely in touch with reality. Ni is always busy in chemistry, fantasy literature, music, competitive Pokémon and other topics with complex worlds and mechanics and specific vocabulary.
Outside of these abstract worlds I struggle to remember facts and details. I always only know _that_ I did something, but I forget very quickly _when_ I did it. And my sense of orientation is pretty much nonexistent. People expect me to remember how to get from A to B just because I sat in the car and "saw" where we were driving. But when I'm not actively trying to focus on the environment, then I will spend my time thinking or talking about my nerdy topics and don't pay attention to anything else.
I can't comprehend how people seem to have an internal map of the web of streets in their head.

But I learned how to cope with these flaws: Whenever I have to get things done in reality, I make detailed plans and backup plans about every little step and write it down on lists; I use Google maps to get around when I don't know the environment; and technology helps me once again when I rely on my calendar widget to manage my whole real life. I wouldn't remember half of the events without it.

I'm also a passionate gamer by the way; didn't realize that I probably love it because I live in the moment and use my Se. ^^

“Being human is hard.” I feel that. Along with time. I literally have no sense of time. Also really struggle with reality. -INFJ

I feel like part of the tendency to "go too far" can be Se and "wanting all the sensory fun" but I think part of it can also be that strong Ni "ambition" and "desire to achieve, " and that focused "desire" and "goal" emphasis has a reaction of "if I want to achieve this goal, I have to push myself" and then it ends up "pushing the self" too hard for too long. Just so desperate to "achieve" sometimes.

A way to torture Se inferior is to tell them they are ugly, or cringy, or not funny, or boring, or weird. People be careful of this, don’t play with fire

As an INTJ I noticed after learning about cognitive functions when I ignore my Se and Fi for too long I would fall into these binge cycles (Se Fi) and wouldn't care about the consequences...really hated myself when that happened

INFJ here...yeah, I do the same thing with time. I call it "rounding up" 😀

I am 53/INFJ. I am very comfortable with Ti at this point. Se is still a bit of a stranger to me, but I feel more comfortable with it than in my 20s. I have learned to be more realistic.

Personal examples:

-Being terrible in Driver's Ed until I finally get enough instruction for it to click then I'm a good driver.

-Being able to draw really accurate artwork of real subjects but doing it for more than an hour at a time makes me literally nauseous.

-I was totally incapable of finding a diet/exercise plan that did anything to affect my body until I bought a fitbit and took down actual metrics and realized I was estimating everything wrong and it actually does work when I'm based in reality.

-I can't gauge my alcohol tolerance at all and need to pre-measure everything or have supervision or I WILL mess myself up. Lol

As a INTJ I also can over do physical activity and push through lol. When I was 29 I was boxing and training for 2.5 hours Monday-Friday and I trained so much that my immune system was destroyed and I got shingles at 29yo lol… iv also weight lifted so much that my CNS was fried all the time and I had no energy for anything els, but I hit my goals of 325 bench, 205 overhead press, 505 deadlift, and a 420 squat :) lol… but now I don’t really take weight lifting seriously and just workout a little for health.

You two could go on a weekend trip into the woods. It will draw out Amanda's demon and blind function, make those shine, which is excellent support to have for when you challenge both of your inferior functions.

Because being out there, everything takes time. You need to set up camp, build a fire, prepare food, move to another location if you move from campspot to campspot. By the time you're done and you can relax all you want is to see the sunset, listen to the forest noises, breathe in the smells, talk about pretty it all is. Let reality wash over you in way you can't help but enjoy.

There is nothing like it and believe me, Ne (and probably Ni I imagine) will take a step back. It's sensing and feeling when your out there. So you have your (eachothers?) second functions as a familiarity to ground you, but this time your sensing functions are in the driving seat.

I wholeheartedly recommend it, if only as an experiment, if I want to fully relax my (supposed) entp mind this has been the way for me for 15 years.

Probably take someone who has experience at this with you. Someone who typically wants to share the experience, and naturally instruct you, not educate you ... I think 🤔 ... We want to stimulate SF, not NT.

I’m really glad I got into fencing in my early 30s and I totally relate to ignoring pain and injuries lol

*INxJs be like*: ''Look, all I'm saying is that the very fabric of reality is highly subjective and nuanced but human nature as it such that they need to box everything into, convenient, albeit questionable dichotomies for fear of rattling their preconceived notions of reality and thus feeling a sense of belonging and comfort that turns a blind eye to the bigger concept of free will and deliberate

What? Why are you looking at me that way?? I'm not weird, YOU'RE weird!''

Nope, INTJs (and even ISTPs) know we are unrealistic for you, we just play on another level 😉 Being called crazy, weird or unrealistic is just another tuesday compliment to us 😂 Also injuries.. INTJs learn from mishaps consistently, might be a mistyped ISFP/INFP/INTP there...

Hello Amanda and Jessy, thank you for this video; in reference to Se i have been wanted to ask you if you could refer to not healthy ISFJ in the future and what do you think about there existing a tendency for them to develop mild Munchausen by proxy, on the sense of normalizing too much the characteristic that make their loved ones be sick, instead of realising that is not normal for them or anyone to be sick or require attention and help too much, that promotes them - their loved ones - being more dependant, egocentric, and insecure the more they depend on that excess of care . But when they are simply ok, ISFJ can suffer due to feeling useless by not being needed

It is difficult for me to formulate it so if you read and is not understandable let me know to re write since it could be related to some other speciphic function maybe not Se, or if anyone else understands and actually has wondered something similar maybe you can formulate it more simply thank you
