How to Quit Your Job and Travel the World - Part 1 - The Big Change

This is part 1 of a 3 part series on How to Quit Your Job and Travel the World.

Video #2 (coming next week) is all about How to figure out where you want to go, how much to budget for that trip, and really flesh out the trip of your dreams.

Video #3 (coming in 2 weeks) is all about The Money. How much money. How we saved up enough to go on this trip. Everything money is in that video, coming soon.

This video is all about THE BIG CHANGE - going from where you are in your life right now to deciding that you want to make a real change in your life. Deciding that you want to, maybe, just maybe, leave your job and travel the world.

We really want to dive deep into this topic - it's something that's changed our life so entirely that it's hard to imagine our lives without it. We just had to share as much as we could about this. We really hope that it will be helpful for you.

This video is why my wife and I love following you guys. Your honesty and no-BS approach is refreshing and we find ourselves connecting to that quite a bit. We've dealt with similar thoughts for years and between the pandemic and setting ourselves up (whether that means financially or otherwise), we feel pretty close to pulling the trigger. In our case, it'll mean traveling indefinitely but keeping our jobs/work/side hustles alive while doing so. It's going to be challenging but we know it'll be worth it. We're currently in Mexico feeling things out for a month and then we'll take it from there! Keep on kicking ass, guys. If ever we're in the same place at the same time, dinner/drinks are on us.

First off, yall are awesome 💜 I think the hardest thing about this kind of lifestyle is the #1 fear - having to announce to everyone that you are doing this wacky new thing, (because you need their support & need to get the word out!) but now you have all eyes on you! I think that has been the hardest part for us, the pressure to succeed that we put on ourselves for the sake of proving that we can do this lifestyle.
This was a super well put-together video - props to y'all for the outside opinions that you incorporated. We are looking forward to the upcoming vids!

Hey guys! I love your channel and this is exactly why. You guys are very honest and transparent, and I love how you lay out all of your feelings for us, making it easier to connect with the two of you. I am 25 now, and have never thought about leaving everything behind to fulfill my dreams of learning more about the cultures I'm interested in, specially the languages... I leave this video with a lot of thoughts on my mind, trying to figure out if there is a space in my life for something like this... I started working very young at a very big tech company, which makes me think I am way ahead of my age. But the I can do this now, in my 20s, in my 30s, in my 40s, anytime. Thank you for being an inspiration. I often think about Lisa and Josh, and wish you two are happy wherever you are. ❤

Love the honesty in this video. There's a lot of phony garbage on YT that hides the real life behind-the-scenes aspects of full-time traveling. Looking forward to the other parts to this topic! Our family still holds our normal 9-5 jobs but we work hard to put the pieces together to coordinate long-term traveling & remote work opportunities. Our experiences and thoughts are very similar to yours. Cheers to your next adventure!

Love your videos, and there’s great info here. Appreciate your transparency (and spreadsheets!). I’d add though that it’s really important to figure in the cost of lost income and investment contributions before doing this. $35k is just the direct cost. That said, you’ve definitely got me thinking hard about living life now instead of always working/planning/saving for some vague future retirement that may not come soon enough to enjoy. Planning and saving for a concrete goal like you did is the key. And that white board is everything. Brilliant idea.

Hello Lisa and Josh, The difference in your approach is remarkable. Australia is a long way from anywhere. Since the 1960's people have travelled abroad to escape the cultural drudgery which existed in those times. This tradition hasn't changed since then though culturally we're much more enriched now. Travelling overseas for 3 to 5 years is completely normal and almost expected although these are always working holidays. No-one really ever thinks it through they just set out. Thankyou so much for this video

Thank you guys for this video. I loved that your brought your family and recruiter friend in to bring in other perspectives! So unique and so much good information that resonates with me. My hubby and I are planning our one year trip as well and hoping to leave home this Summer.

Been watching a lot of your videos and needed to let you know you’re both doing a wonderful job with them. ☺️

Life is too short and I find that things usually work out in the end so it’s worth taking the risk.
Other people said to me you are so lucky to be going to NZ for two years. This job was organised over the phone ..yes before the internet over 30years ago.! I believe you make your own luck and there is always a lot of planning involved. For me it was renting a house out taking a 6 month old baby with us and not knowing what would happen on our return.
Well 30 years later our grown up children are now travelling the world and I’m proud that they maybe got the travel bug from us….and yes we’re still travelling and having adventures on the way

So true! I quit my job as Web Developer in Malta in 2019, moved to Australia and completed the full lap in 2 years time, by car, by myself ! 🚙🦘

If I were a potential employer, I might wonder if I should take a chance on someone who might pick up and leave after I have invested my trust and benefits on them. Some companies might mot want to invest on someone that will leave the moment they have a bad day. I wish i didn't havevto work and had the ability to do what you do. It work for you, so as long as you can continue to feel it and many blessings.

Great video and kudos to you for doing this at a young age. Most people can't wrap their head around this lifestyle. But those who do are much better for it.
