Also, NEVER tell them where your new job will be. Even though it's illegal in many states, some spiteful bosses will reach out to that company and speak poorly about you.

Sometimes it's not worth being polite when you quit your job. Sometimes it is

remember you never owe them a 2 week notice

The two-week notice is a formality that you give if you're seeking to stay on good terms for the purposes of reference or the industry is small. You owe no one a two-week notice. Now, if you have a contract then yes, it may be necessary but without a legally binding contract, a two week notice is just a courtesy.

I personally always preferred the simple answer of either this position no longer aligns with my career plans, or I no longer feel like I can provide value to this business.

Good advice. Leave only after you've accepted a better offer. Don't let a toxic manager or anyone take a paycheck out of your pocket.

Bosses are so toxic these days that they deserve red X conversation.

Love the acting - not only of it realistic, it's also real - for many working people under toxic management.

HAVE THE DAY YOU DESERVE!!

Literally laughed out loud!

I'd say, HAVE the same type of day you made sure I always had, back when I USED to work here! 😂

Thing is, I would always advice to leave some professional feedback in the end and not to leave it out for the sake of being liked. Often times noone EVER mentions faulty leadership and everyone wonders how this can continue to happen ...

Its not just Management evaluating you, you should be allowed to do the same. Again, professional but for the love of god, give feedback.

Very true, leaving with grace. Do it always to show them your virtue and integrity!

I'm quit my job after 25 years. This is the greatest feeling in the world.

The only feedback I have on this- also be prepared to be sent to HR to close out your employee file IMMEDIATELY. While you're willing to give them two weeks where you're closing out your projects, they can go ahead and terminate you immediately (as they may feel you're going to be a detriment those 9 additional work days).
Be financially and professionally prepared for this.
If you have the new job lined up, if they send you home that day, use those extra days to purge the thoughts and habits of the old job beforehand or to start the new job (that you obviously want more) earlier.

If your argument is to save your emotional energy and quite with grace, id argue trying to force myself to be that nice (unless it's a mutual quiting) would be more emotional than just speaking my mind.

Not rudely, but i do think it's important that someone needs to hear certain things, and what better way than to a person who won't have control over you anymore. Me personally, i dont want people sugar costing things. If im being an ahole tell me, but thats just me. Do you think a boss whos so toxic would read your HR letter? Absolutely not😂

You have one chance to explain to the person whos so toxic you need to quit your job, directly to them. Don't walk out feeling like you didnt say something you wanted, because tbh that feeling out weights the 'proud' feelings id get from taking the highroad on someone who was so toxic, i felt the only way moving forward is to leave.

I agree with you 100%, and normally would practice this. However, PERSONALLY, I've reached an absolute BREAKING POINT with my current supervisor that I've never ever experienced before, and idk if I can be so gracious to them anymore. I wont explode but man I don't wanna be nice. (But i know I will be respectful bc thats just how I am 😔)

Yeah okay while this is very valid advice for some people it is so tiring to keep up the business facade. Its not about being stubborn or wanting to be mean it's about not being able to mask your emotions anymore in a toxic environment where you are expected to be someone you aren't.

Honestly, this is an excellent piece of advice.
It is useless to burn your energy telling how you feel to your boss/manager because they will never be in the right mood to have empathy towards your feelings.
Simply put: dont waste your time, stay professional till the end, move on - you deserved it!

Tip: instead of scolding your boss in person, write out all your feelings in your resignation letter to HR, then keep a copy of it and use those words as inspiration for punk songs
