My grandpa always said. “I was looking for a job before I found this one.” Meaning it’s okay to quit your job and move onto something else. It’s your life.

Never settle, and never allow an employer to pay you less than you deserve for your contributions to the company.
They need you, you don't need them!

It’s not about money at my age. It’s just doing something for the next 10 years that I can tolerate and don’t have to drive too far.

They don't give you two weeks notice when they lay you off or fire you. It's "at will" unless you sign a contract it goes both ways.

If I'm quitting a job why the hell would I want to work another two weeks?

I like my job but my managers, even the higher ups are poor leaders. They are good at managing tasks and operations, very poor at managing people. Too much authority has been given to the rest of the team, creating a situation where I have like 4 people (senior in the job, but not in age or rank) want me to listen and do what they say. It's a headache when the managers don't acknowledge this problem and step up.

Exit interview should always be politely declined, even if it is the policy of the company to do one. The reason is that there is no upside benefit to the worker who is about to leave. If the company really cares about what the soon to be departing employee's true feelings about the company, wouldn't the company want to find out about it when the worker was still productive? There is a lot of downside risks to the soon to be departed worker if the worker decided to open his or her heart and told the truth about how she or he really felt about the company. One or two years later, when a new potential employer calls for a reference, the old HR department has a file on the exit interivew and this information could be used against the employee who poured his or her heart out to the old HR. Only advice: Do not do it. If you must do one due to company policy, choose your word carefully as if you were being interviewed by a potential employer.

My thoughts on this...

1) I wouldn't give notice since they will never give you notice.
If you give notice, they will typically have you escorted out of the building immediately anyway.
Only exception might be if your industry is very small and everyone knows everyone else.

2) Ideally have a new job lined up!!!

3) Immediately apply for Obamacare (while it lasts) so you don't go without health coverage.
Even if you have a job lined up, it typically will take over 60 days to become eligible for health insurance.
If you have any medical or dental things due, get them done before you quit!
It can take several weeks for your O'care to become effective. Longer if your application gets screwed up.

4) If you don't have a job lined up, be sure to have saved up a substantial emergency fund.
The job hunt may take longer than you anticipated and you don't want to feel pressure to take just any job.

I walked out after almost 30 years. Indicated that I was getting my hat and leaving. Inside I was thinking "Seee YA! Wouldn't want to BEE YA! I do regret my level of politeness. They did not deserve it.

Does the employer give you a two week notice when they fire your ass? Nope. When you quit, walk to to your ‘bosses’ and say “I quit”.

I’m quitting my job today cause I found another one and am already being hired. My past company the one I’m quitting didn’t have the respect for me to even give me more then 20 hours a week and when I did come to work I got sent home twice due to “labor” issues. If they don’t have the respect to let me work why should I have the respect for a two week notice?
