Knee hyperextension and hypermobility #shorts #fitness

Knee hyperextension is common in hypermobility. Is it a problem? It depends. It’s a better strategy to apply a micro bend in the knee or to think about co contracting the muscles to prevent hyperextension. This recruits more muscle involvement to create stability than simply collapsing into the end ranges does and is likely a better long term method for your joint health. Training and strengthening your full range of motion with actively accessing that range is fine for many but is different than passively collapsing into that range.

I never had knee pain until I started working a job where I have to lean over while my knees are locked, I’m hyper mobile in elbows and knees, I’m trying to correct the behavior.

I had no idea I was doing this or that the way I stand wasn’t just the normal way of standing til a physical therapist pointed it out, who knows how many years I’ve been this way. It’s so subtle & I’ve never come across the idea before that it’s like, PE teachers should’ve made a point about it in school or we’d forever go on not noticing the slightest difference

I can do this, but sometimes when I acidentally do it on the trampoline my lower leg can go a bit forwards. IT HURTS!

Is conscious effort required to improve this? I experience slight knee hyperextension when standing for extended periods.

I have EDS so my entire body is hyper mobile. I sublax in my hips and have horrible pain daily in them. What is the best way to safely strengthen hip joints specifically?

Does anyone else find it nearly impossible to stand without hyper extending? Like it feels unnatural and forced and uncomfortable if I don’t hyper extend the knees

Good content, but the text in the middle makes it really challenging to watch

I just realize I've been hyperextending my left knee when jogging as I was trying to focus on using my left leg muscles more (since I've been relying too much on my right causing an imbalance). Then my left knee would be sore after jogging and I wasn't sure why. I'll have to be more aware to not do this until it becomes natural.

I noticed that sometimes when i stumble i overstep on my knee and it bends even further back, so im afraid i could break my knees accidentally because of hyperflexibility
