My asus zenfone 10 was 799. And it is drastically more feature filled. You literally cannot justify a high price when taking awya features. Theres absolutely no one who will buy such a device.

What profit margins do typical manufacturers have for phones? Because going from $800 to $400 for an early bird price, makes me wonder if their profit margins are massive, or if they're trying to get enough people in the door, that an initial loss in profit would pay off with the large number of users, in some way in the future.

I think what people really want is a small phone that doesn't look bad. I imagine something like an iphone 4, a small screen so social media isn't that engaging, but a good processing unit, great battery life and a mid/low camera

Honestly, I think light phone rides the line between a highly useful therapy tool which would warrant the price, vs a hipster "look at me I'm better than you for not having a normal phone" which markets to a clientel that will pay higher prices for it. Because its an incredible option for people with social media addiction or other mental health problems, which is a major reason people step away from standard phone
