EVT Prototype Demo

Follow along our process as we bring the Light Phone III to life:

Having made over 250 Light Phone III prototypes, our June/July Engineering Validation Test (E.V.T.) production was a success. These looks-like, works-like prototypes are assembled with all the intended materials and final manufacturing processes to ensure everything works as expected. There are some things we’ll continue to optimize of course, though we are happy to report that there were no serious flaws and that our schedule is still on track. The software shown is a demo app we created to test some hypotheses about the architecture of the LightOS on the new device and to explore gestures like swiping and texting as we keep working on getting the LightOS ready for supporting the Light Phone III. The UX refinement is a work in progress.

You guys should also promote this for kids. I bought the light phone 2 for my kid because I wanted them to be able to text and listen to music, and have no access to regular apps. It worked great and was a better alternative than a flip phone or smart with monoriting. With the light phone, I didn't have to think about my kid getting on apps I didn't approve. I'll probably end up getting the light phone 3 for my next kid who currently has a flip phone.

Looks great. A couple of things: one day of battery life seems very little for a phone that has so limitted functionalities.
It woild be great to have a mini jack input. If music is one of the chosen things the phone does, I think it shoud do it right and, as a musician, "right" means a headphone jack. Also I think it makes sense because if you want to go "light" you don't want headphones that need charging nor adapaters.

Very interested in the camera. The funkier, the better! Could be so artsy 😍 I'd kill for a setting where the screen could still mimic the e-ink display. I'm too addicted to e-ink to go back to fluid scrolling-- fluid scrolling makes me nauseous. E-ink feels so professional. It's why I got the Remarkable E-Ink paper tablet. It's just the best

I can't wait for this phone! My 11-year old kid is clamoring for a phone of her own and there's no way I would give her a smart phone, but a phone like this might really help her develop more independence without getting sucked in to the device. In any case, maybe she'll be a convert after she sees my light phone when it arrives.
