“When should I start doing pelvic floor physical therapy exercises during pregnancy and postpartum (especially after having a C-section like I did)?!🤔

The short answer…IT DEPENDS!

When did I start? The same day I had surgery. Yes, I started implementing education to protect my surgery site such as splinting, log roll technique, breathing, bracing, standing at edge of bed, sitting at edge of bed, walking to the bathroom, etc.✅

There are a variety of factors that you just can’t control during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum…(like an emergency c-section)

So it is important to focus on all the things you can control like EXERCISE! It’s important to prepare mentally, and physically for whatever comes your way. That’s why I recommend patients see or talk with a pelvic floor PT at least once during pregnancy and again postpartum!❤️

I was 6 weeks pp here but that doesn’t mean you need to be jumping rope! We all will recover at a different rate depending on what you did during pregnancy, complications, medical history, etc!⬇️

I have been doing breathing for my belly and pelvic floor everyday as well as stretching, strengthening, and cardio at least 5-15 min daily!✅

Even in crazy days where I only get 5 minutes to myself or am exhausted from lack of sleep, I always do DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING!🔥

I talk a lot about prep during pregnancy & postpartum healing in my Pregnancy Prep & Postpartum Recovery Online Program🔥

I even added information about my personal recovery and personalized home exercise PDFs to show you all what I have been doing to recover!✅

I am also back to doing ALL the exercises from The Belly Whisperer Method online program!

P.S. If it’s been years since you had kids but you want to start strengthening, stretching, and protecting your belly and pelvic floor then I recommend checking out The Belly Whisperer Method!🔥🔥🔥

And remember it takes YEARS to heal postpartum even if you can start doing more activities again so don’t rush the process, just do what you can to help prevent injuries and keep you feeling good!❤️

Focus on feeling good first. Nourish your body with sleep, food, and exercise🙌

Don’t let her fool you. This was very painful for her. You have to WANT to heal from this. The massaging is painful, breathing is painful. She’s a soldier for doing this.

These comments did not pass the vibe check. This woman is literally a PT specialized in pelvic health and spreading awareness on something all mothers should have access to and people are mad about it smh

There’s a reason why some countries give 1 year of maternal leave. Women’s bodies need time to heal and recover, it’s okay to take it slowly Mamas💕

Sometimes, we have to push ourselves to heal. I have a broken rib, and it's so painful, but I do my best to do what I can do. Props, momma. Only we know our limits.

I love that we finally have more people caring about Post Partum bodies! Before it was always “uh just hit the gym and get a flat tummy” but now we understand how much strain the body went through to form a new life! Love to see these exercises and I will definitely include them before, during and after pregnancy!

I admire her discipline that it takes to do this, but just a reminder ladies:
Your stomach doesn’t have to look like it did before pregnancy. Stretch marks/ scars/ a “mom bod” are all perfectly normal too! Not everyone has the time or experience to do this, but if you do go for it!

I did my best to excercise, eat well and prpeare my body for delivery.
Gid had other plans.
I developer excruciating pain from a orevios abdominal surgery scar that compressed the nerves on the abdominal wall.
Ended up bed ridden for a about 3 months prior to the C section.
Took awhile to recover. My son is 15 months now and Im still slowly shedding the weight and finding my energy again.
Everyone has their journey. Take it one day at a time and dont really set any deadlines. Your body has gone thru alot. Appreciate that it needs timw ro recover.

Putting scar cream and having it moisturized is also a great idea.

So great to see a mother so happy and optimistic about this!! You look great, momma.

Props to you for this but for all the mamas out there, be graceful with yourself during your postpartum. My days after postpartum were definitely not filled with smiles and funky disco music.

What I love is the big smile she has during the process! Let's not forget to enjoy the entire journey and show ourselves love throughout, not just when we get the results we want.❤❤

Healing fully does usually have to be an intentional choice. PT is usually necessary to regain old abilities and comfort in your body. Some do it gradually over time and that’s okay too. Just take care of your body and love on it. It is unlikely for most women to “bounce back” quickly and should not be expected. Even if you do everything “right”, every woman’s body is different. Just have grace on yourself during this time and also know you are worthy of putting the work in to truly heal.

What's crazy to me is that this isn't considered a major surgery, thus giving doctors an exuse to only give you tylenol. But when men get a vasectomy, they get hardcore painkillers and strict bed rest (women are usually expected to be able to get up and take care of the kid the second they get home). Why does the medical industry hate women?

Lets be real, she was very small at full term. I was double if not triple the size of that bump with my 2nd.

I had an unexpected c section at 33 weeks and the recovery was brutal...still is from time to time but for the most part I'm back to my regular activities (about 75% there)

As of this comment, I'm 3 months postpartum. The minimum of 6 weeks to recover is just that, THE BARE MINIMUM amount of time it takes to even think about doing more than just a few steps here n there and picking up your baby. I felt fine like I was capable of doing more around 3 weeks in but I could tell for certain that I wasn't at the same strength levels pre-pregnancy.

All this just to say.... go at your own pace and the important thing here is to heal your body. Give it the time it's telling you it needs 😊

I just gave birth a week ago and have begun binding 😊 it’s very hard to make time for exercises, but I’m trying 😅

As someone who has had laparoscopic surgery (which is minor in comparison), I cannot imagine doing all of this within 6 weeks of a C-Section. Your healing journey might not look like this, and that is okay. Do what is best for your body. 💛
