8 Signs That You Own the Wrong Motorcycle!

You might ride the wrong motorcycle, even though you refuse to believe it! In this video, I will point out 8 signs that you made the wrong choice.

Welcome back! First, I would like to clarify that I will talk only from a traveling point of view. So, if you have a motorcycle that is just for weekend fun, this video might not be for you, even though it might give you some useful information. So, it won't hurt if you watch it.

Finding the best motorcycle is a very personal thing, and it should be different for everyone, but I noticed something else. People love to be part of a large group that will give them some confidence, and because of that, in many situations, they prefer to buy what others have.

In general, this is not a bad idea, at least you will know the brand, the model, and might have some useful advice, but only if the motorcycle is for you and this is moment where many people get confused.

In the era of social media, it is so easy to find information about every brand and model. Hundreds of people will share their experience with a specific model, something that was impossible about 20 years ago, right?

The problem is that just because something is great for me, does not make it automatically great for everyone. Let's take for example this Tenere 700. It is the perfect choice for me and my type of trips, but I am 185 cm tall, I ride alone, and usually I include some dirt roads on my trips, and it is a motorcycle that I can afford.

What about someone who is 170cm tall, rides with a passenger, and prefers European highways? Well... even though I love this model, I will say that there are much better models for him and his type of trips.

I can give many examples like this, but I hope that you got the idea! Let me now tell you these 5 signs that I promised in the beginning of the video.

The best motorcycle for me is the one that delivers joy when I ride it, and when it is just sitting there in the garage. Which explains why I have 4 of them. 😂😂

I think the most important thing is to be very honest with yourself about your skill and what you are really going to do with the bike. Great vid!

I dream of riding tall exciting off road biased bikes and absolutely lust after the Norden 901....but know fine well that my 411cc RE Himalayan is still the right bike for me and my sort of riding. It's a bit slow but as a 160cm tall small woman with average skills and only 6 years riding experience, it suits me. I wish it was lighter but as you often say, "it is what it is !" It's simple and I can do the basics to maintain it plus, I can afford it. It's allowed me to explore 34 countries and approx 35, 000 miles so far and now I'm getting excited for the next big trip... South America here we come. Thanks for the inspiration.

Very important to start out on smaller bikes. I started on a Minsk, 125 cc, which I crashed. Then a Suzuki Dr 350 which seemed super powerful at first. Then Dr 800 Big and so on. Patience is good because you can learn a lot by making smaller mistakes at smaller speeds and not hurt yourself too bad and also not cry when you drop or crash your bike.

Completly agree with you Pavlin. For years I had vstrom 650, and although in Europe it is considered a medium-displacement motorcycle and I am a big guy like you (187 cm), honestly it was way too big for me... points 3, 4 and 5 you mentioned in the video. Now I have a Scram 411, and although it only has 20 horsepower, I enjoy it much more, cand do some basic maintenance and and I'm not afraid if it falls down. I should have changed it earlier, much earlier.. Keep on with the excellent content... and with the new episodes of your South Amereica trip!

I have a KLR 650 and have taken many camping adventures with it. Reliable but to big. A friend of mine bought a tenere 700 and found it to big off road like my KLR. My next bike is a klx300 as it’s the best of both and I won’t break my back trying to pick it up.

I would add if you find yourself modifying the absolute crap out of your bike, bar risers, suspension upgrades, massive protection, different seats, luggage systems, ecu remaps, exhaust changes, pegs, etc you need to think about what exactly you're trying to achieve. Ask me how I know.

I agree on all of your points - you nailed it! I‘m sometimes struggeling with my Tenere World Raid … but taking all of your concerns into account, the T7 is exactly my type of bike.

I have friends who own expensive adventure bikes that exceed 1000cc. I try to go on adventure trips with them, but they apologize for the difficulty of riding the bikes on those trails. While I own a KLR and I find it easy.

I agree that interfering with the motorcycles geometry is generally wrong, and I haven’t done it with mine (I’m 178cm) but in case of the Tenerè Yamaha produces lowered (Explore) and higher (Extreme) versions!

I’ve mostly ridden bug baggers for decades. I’m a big guy and they fit me well. My rides are typically day trips adding up to about 100, 000 miles per year.

Great video. I love your content. Always a pleasure. Chow. 😊

Was in a motorcycle dealership and this guy who was quite short was trying to buy a huge bike. Even the salesman was trying to talk him out of it. When I was leaving with my parts I happen to see him in one of the offices trying to finance it.
I kind of knew the salesman and the next time I went in the shop I asked him what happened with that sale. He said the guy put a minimum downpayment and could barely make payments. He thinks it sits in his garage because he dropped it in his driveway and scared himself.
He said he sees it all the time to the point if the person is younger he refuses to sell them the motorcycle they want and offers a better choice.

E' tutto vero e condivisibile.
Pero' una moto puoi comprarla non solo per quello che ti permette di fare, ma anche per quello che ti fa sognare di fare.
