My only worry is that some of the world will forget what these brave men did for our freedom.

I had the pleasure to have the company and a long-lasting relationship with one of the Normandy survivors Mr. Ernest Phillips, and his wife Evelyn, I met them on their 50th anniversary, and they became long-lasting friends. God Bless his soul.

I am from Germany and would not be here writing these lines, if those men did not fulfill their last measure to liberate Europe. I have the greatest respect for those, who risked their lives for freedom.

My great grandfather wasn't on the beach, but he did end up serving in Okinawa.
My thanks to all those who passed, and the few still with us.

Also, I keep thinking of Captain James Stagg of the British armed forces, who made the most consequential weather report in modern history:
when D-day should happen (based on a storm in the forecast)

Liberty, bruised and crushed, stands steadfastly.
Against all hope, she raises her bloodied head,
Wielding her sword relentlessly,
Her hope resilient and unabated.

As everyone knows Ireland is a neutral country…..BUT a lot of our Irish countrymen actually joined the British Army as they couldn’t stay neutral.
