What things do you dislike about windows 11? let me know below.

For me, it is the hardware requirements. Microsoft is encouraging the obsolescence of stable working hardware for what. More landfill?

Do you remember the days when an operating system had to be lean and efficient so most of the processor and memory resources could be used by the applications? Those were the days.

Microsoft wants people to buy new computers...at a time when people are spending less while inflation is high.

Microsoft is pushing more telemetry gathering onto their customers...at a time when people are learning what that actually means for privacy (even the non-technical people are questioning it now).

Microsoft is making UI changes for the sake of change without convincing people they're needed (taskbar, start menu, settings app, etc.)...at a time when people are more opinionated about it than ever.

Microsoft is hiding settings or removing them...at a time when more people are learning about computers than ever before and need to be able to fix what they broke or let someone else fix it for them.

Microsoft is forcing customers to tie in to their online ecosystem by forcing people to use a Microsoft account...at a time when Internet access is still spotty and unreliable for millions of people depending on where they live (some even have metered connections) and people aren't too keen about giving Microsoft all their data to begin with given the telemetry controversy.

Microsoft updates are a mixed bag and are known to break things...at a time when people really don't want to be bothered with botched forced updates getting in the way of what they want to do on their schedule.

Outside of specific software/hardware that only works on Windows, why would anyone want to use it when it doesn't stay out of their way to let people get on their lives? I'm not saying to go to Mac or Linux or ditch the PC/laptop for a tablet/phone per say, but who actually honestly needs Windows outside of specific things that only work with it?

Most games work on Linux now without the DRM/anticheat nonsense (which is ethically questionable to begin with). Both Mac and Linux desktops can be preinstalled in such a way that a novice can sit down in front of a running system and click the icon for the browser of their choice and go to town on the Internet without anybody's help. The alternatives for games, software, and hardware options for many tasks (granted not all) do exist and many of them do cover a lot of people's needs.

Again, I'm not telling people to dump Windows for Mac or Linux or even a tablet. But I am throwing the question out there for everyone to challenge them: How reliant are you on Windows? Seriously...after considering all the alternative even from using consoles for gaming to alternative software apps. How reliant are you on Windows?

This is a time in computing history where I think more people are asking themselves that question than ever before.

Hardware requirements are still the biggest issue for many

If Microsoft completely phases out control panel that's going to make it hart for people like me who do IT work for companies. When someone's outlook profile get corrupted by updates that have gone wrong, and so on. We go to control panel and the mail control panel section and remove the profiles, restart, the computer, and then have them set up outlook like they had just received the computer.

You got it in your first point: my laptop (that I had to buy a few years ago when Win 7 hit eol and I needed to switch to Win 10) is not compatible. I am not buying a new one to use an OS that I just don't want! So, I'll be switching to Linux or another little known alternative OS when Win 10 hits eol.

I, too, am a fan of CONTROL PANEL as it is the easiest way to get to where you need to. You got lucky that lightning didn't surge into your place and fry your computer system. I had that happen to me and when it hit my house, it fried my phone line and completely melted the modem on my computer. Fortunately, that was the only component that was damaged. Be safe making those vids during a storm, M8.

I personally am not too crazy about 11, I will hold on to my 2 versions of 10 as long as possible. I already have 1 system with 11 that I really don't like and I barely use it.

If Microsoft history remains the same I will hold out until 12 or next version. According to history that version should be a better one. Other than that I will have to learn to adapt. My one and only issue with Microsoft is being forced into things I don't like or want.

11 a polished fancy version of 10 is ok. Some things I like and alot that I don't. My number 1 issue with it is compatibility, mostly with processor types. I have a system that meets every minimum requirement except for processor type and it's an AMD laptop. But it meets core count and speed, go figure.

Unfortunately hardware vendors along with software vendors are still playing catch up with all advancements.

An AI that I didn't choose to install is bloatware.

Brian the issue is I don’t have a choice. My wife works from home so our PC is shared. She uses a load of office applications and to make life easy for her when sharing files and stuff with her boss we continue to use Windows 11. I hate it but I feel trapped. I guess it will grow on me

As an IT professional, who does a lot of support on both Max and Windows computers, I try to make their new system, such as windows 11, look like an older system like either Windows 10, 7, or XP. my goal is to make the user as comfortable as possible as soon as possible. Another thing that’s interesting, is that you can use applications that are older, like office 2007.

Only two things stop me from upgrading to Windows 11. One of them is Windows 11. Windows 11 is the other one.

I left Windows over a year ago after it incorrectly told me my hard drive was permanently damaged. I had Windows 10. When it told me Windows could not boot because the hard drive needed to be replaced, I did as anyone with common sense would do and ignored the Windows diagnosis. Have been happily running Ubuntu for well over a year and am much more satisfied. I don't think I'm ever going back to Windows. I do realize that there may be, in the future, a reason why I would need Windows. So I have the Windows 10 ISO on a USB drive, which I can boot to in a virtual machine.

Thank you for making me feel better about not being able to switch over to Windows 11, and yes, I heard the thunder BOOM !

I'm not upgrading to Windows 11. Not until I'm forced to (Oct 2025). However, I'm fairly certain Windows 12 will be up by then. There is an alleged computer chip shortage yet the greed of Microsoft and the computer industry does not care about the TONS and TONS of ewaste they will produce by forcing people to trash perfectly good computers. I did not know about GC-TPM2 chips. I love Windows 10, so I'm sticking with it to the end.

Compared to 10, settings in 11 are unintuitive and irritating. The context menu is absolutely rubbish; many games still perform horribly. Privacy doesn't exist.

Brian, any chance of covering how to install one of these TPM chips?

every iteration of windows since 95 and NT4.0 has had the very things that people who actually use their machines more and more mouse clicks away, one of the biggest ones for me was the change they did to keyboard navigation of the directory introduced with vista... moving large groups of files quickly without touching a mouse died at that point

Thanks Brian.
I'm very unhappy with the right-click content menu.

Used Win 11 for about 4 months and that was about it. Sure its stable but the interface is garbage. I will be sticking with Win 10 till the end of life Oct 2025
