Hey man,
I totally agree with you. Tbh I saw the films first as a kid when they came out but now as a young male in my 20s, during quarantine I decided to get myself four of Tolkien’s best known work (The Hobbit and LOTR 1, 2 and 3) and man oh man, were they a lot different from what I expected and it’s a lot deeper than how the films portrayed as this extra action packed theme(still works well for that medium). To a first time reader, the books and movies may speak “totally different languages”.I love the series. Now on my second reread for The Two Towers(on Treebeard’s chapter)

Ive seen the movies and am starting the books now. Im hoping like harry potter they are miles better than the already fantastic movies

Not that I needed any convincing, but yeah you're absolutely right! I'm ashamed to admit I haven't read them yet, but I own the set and will be getting to them sooner rather than later!

I'm most definitely a Fantasy fan and my favourite author said the books changed his life.

I read all of them earlier this year and can honestly say if I'd not read them I would have been just fine. He may have influenced work but fantasy has surpassed his storytelling tenfold. It started well and got steadily worse as it went on. I'd still have been a Fantasy fan if I'd not touched them and don't think my life or reading experience would have been tainted in the slightest.

But I also agree about The Wheel of Time is directly copying Lord of the Rings in the beginning (at least the whole first book).
