HELLDIVERS™ 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

Here's the problem: the fire breaker nerf came because of its pick rate. They are still making spreadsheet nerfs, which tells me that they have learned *very* little since launch.

Arrowhead referencing things like Final Fantasy 14 and No Man's Sky (games that were fundimentally broken in the beginning) is the absolute opposite of how Helldivers 2 started. We had a GOOD product, they keep screwing it up. This whole kerfuffel is FROM ARROWHEAD THEMSELVES.

As the lead balancing developer for Arrowhead studios Alexus Kravchenko is the one who lets nerf and buff changes be finalized. They are the one who gets the final say and even directs what the changes will be. If we want a real shift from spreadsheet balancing to fun balancing then get rid of Alexus. Here's from the Hello Neighbor 2 wiki about his previous actions: "Alexus Kravchenko was the former lead game designer of Hello Neighbor 2. Working his way up from level designer of the unreleased Alpha 2, to the lead designer of the Beta and full release, he left the team right before the game came out. He removed the game's open world aspects as he said "No one would want to walk around an open world", and instead used a map labelled as a 'testmap' in the files for the full game. Alexus said that this map was in a twitch leak from tinyBuild community manager Ira, but he lied, claiming that this was not the final map. He actively removed features from the game, such as hiding under beds and certain AI tricks, as he didn't like "One-Time Gimmicks" which was a big part of the first game. When asked about the Neural Network advertised in the 2021 AI Trailer for the game, he said it was coming and then left the team, possibly to avoid further questions. Nowadays, Kravchenko, somehow, sadly and very suprisingly, has been hired by a different game studio, and is ready to cause more ruin to other games."

Arrowhead "no Meta-Loadouts" Also Arrowhead "500kg Bomb is necessary on difficulty 10"....

Funfact, as of 2 minutes ago Diablo 4 had a higher steam count than Helldivers 2. That made me hurt a little.

Alright, gamers, you know the drill. The community manager says they made ‘mistakes’ and they ‘hear us’ and are ‘working on it, ’ which probably means the devs are currently figuring out how to break it even more. Stay tuned for the next update, project disappointment.

What’s your guess of the next thing they will break?

AH: does something that will knowingly upset the community

community: doesnt like it, and tells them what to fix

AH: we dont know what the community wants we’re so disappointed

Bruh, this is the same shit. They always admit wrong then say they'll fix it and do the exact same thing. They're fake.

Everyone knows this should be a 120k+ active player count game. AH ruined their chances and need a hail marry to save it.

One issue with the examples that Twinbeard cited is they launched poorly, but by listening to player feedback, they were able to recover the situation. Arrowhead has, up to this point, been the total opposite, they launched extremely well, but ignored players, and have messed up the game. For them to recover the situation, they need to start listening, and actually following through. I also think it would be worthwhile for them to spin a sideteam off to try to see if they can port the game to a more modern engine.

What happens now is they pretend they didn't make mistakes, they didn't say they would fix the issues, and they continue on as they are still in the right.

The playerbase simply doesnt see arrowhead as a capable studio anymore. We believe them when they say they WANT to improve the game, but we no longer believe they can.

All of the games that Twinbeard mentioned only succeeded later because the studios listened exclusively to what their players wanted and worked to give them that.

That is one thing they have consistently been unwilling/unable to do.

The fact that they intentionally won’t let you call in a Hellbomb against bot strongholds on Level 10 should be all you need to know about their idea of “balance” and “fun”.

Challenging games are fun when the players feel empowered to succeed; meaning it is clear that they aren’t being held back by game mechanics or equipment but by their own skill and experience. Unfortunately, Arrowhead is making the game difficult by kneecapping player equipment which only results in frustration as the message is clear: they are setting us up to fail and using the excuse of “realism” to justify it.

You want to become the enemy of your playerbase in record time? Set them up to fail.

Yes, I'm a grandmother that plays video games. I enjoyed this game when I first started playing with my friends. Helldivers was actually my Mother’s Day present. Says something about me, huh.
I've played 183 hours and have earned every achievement. I've held my own in groups as we attack bots and bugs alike.
However, while I enjoy the game, I'm not happy about some of the developer choices.
1. They have taken away or dumbed down items and abilities that made the game fun. I don't want realism. I want to have fun with friends in a challenging, crazy, insane combat scenario. I want and enjoy the challenge. But now I just get tired of being rag dolled all over the map.
2. My boys and friends would rather play other games now because of trust issues with the company. We like fighting the hard fight and kicking butt. However, the developers are making this more and more difficult. If you want to make the game more challenging, then make harder new levels to the game. Don’t mess with the levels where people were improving their game and advancing themselves. Levels are steppingstones where the player can decide what intensity they want. Somedays after a long day at the office, I just want a ‘Challenge, ’ other days I need that ‘Helldive’. Also, where does a new player of a younger generation go to learn?
3. Weapons. A lot can be said here and has been said. Developers I don’t know where or how you were raised but you messed with a grandmother’s gun. Shame on you. If you don’t like how weapons of any kind stand up to a crowd favorite. Fix the one that is broke. Don’t mess with grandma’s gun. I’m not happy with you boys at the moment.
4. Developers, you should have been happy that you had such initial success with your game. You need to realize how rare that can be. You should have run with what the players were enjoying about the game. You should not try to force your ideas down our throat about how we should be using the weapons you’ve supplied. We’ll figure out what we like and what works for us. If you continue to try to fight and force players into a mold, we will go elsewhere. Helldivers have shown the world what we like and what we are looking for in a game. You almost have it. If you weren’t your own worst enemy. But be aware, other game companies and developers are watching and someone will give us the game we want.

Strange decision on the hellbomb....
AH: "We are cripplingly afraid of any particular strategem being taken everytime by the community."
Also AH: "Yeah if you don't take one of the 2 or 3 building killers every time then 'that's on you.'" 🤔

I have over 500+ hours in the game, and I'm about one more nerf patch away from uninstalling. I'm just going to echo what others have said: The weapons suck, they feel bad, and they need to STOP nerfing things. Seriously, I do NOT want to see any more nerfs the rest of this year. That should be a good standard to set. AH needs to look at the trash weapons nobody uses, and start reworking and buffing them so people actually use them. That would be a great place to start focusing their energy, wouldn't it?
