The official arch installer has been reworked multiple times and it's finally at the point where it's almost perfect, it has some issues still but it's almost at the point where even I have nothing to complain about.

I really like this new arch installation, seems that really care about new users to try first the distro and later motivates them to learn more about it when they gain more experience using it

I had used the installer just the other day. Worked great and I totally plan on using it again.

13:43 Important bug! You selected Multilib in the installer here - and the bug is that selecting it also enables Multilib-Testing. I don't know how that made it in but it did.
I recommend manually enabling the Multilib repo after the install instead of enabling it during the installer because of this. (e.g. once you chroot into your system after the install and before exiting and rebooting, or just after you've rebooted entirely via your de's terminal)
(For future folks who see this, this is the May 1st iso off the website with this issue and may not be the case with future releases)

I still think every newcomer should go through a manual Arch install at least once, simply because reading the wiki in preparation for it will teach you more than pretty much anything else i can think of. That said, this is an awesome tool for existing users who simply wanna save some time next time they're installing it, especially when using some more complex setups like zen kernel, btrfs, nvidia dkms, encryption, maybe lvm, doing a super custom build like that can take a long time even if you know what you're doing.

I made a script years ago. It makes my Arch fully functional with all of my needs. But i find this script also really useable. Keep up guys!

I used the installer the other day on an old Macbook. Other than the wrong kernel being installed (I chose -zen instead of the linux package) and some packages being omitted that I've selected in the Installer, it's definitely very convenient and beats installing the "Manual way" when you just want a running Arch system as quickly as possible 👍🏽

Love the idea of having the configs saved.

thank you for your detailed breakdown. I just saw from a different YouTube video that this update was a thing, but they just glossed over it pretty briefly. I am going to try this out now and again I appreciate your review of it 👍🏽

I've been playing with this installer for several days, probably did 10 installs in VirtManager. I think it's better than Anarchy. I am greatly impressed; however, I wouldn't recommend it to a new Linux user.

Ah and yea I didn't get the superuser bug, I haven't been able to make it crash with "superuser" accounts, any idea what that would refer to?

I installed using Arch GUI, I was too afraid of wipping my disks are crying for a month, that worked great for me, got a simple I3 setup that I can play with now.

French here, the translations in the installer could definitely be shorter. They feel like a clunky google translate placeholder to read—which they probably are.

Used it to install arch just 2 days ago - it's had an update since you used it.

Great tool which I'll use from now on!

I must have missed this. I recently used arcolinux to more quickly install on a VM. While I did appreciate some of the additions and tweaks in arco I am torn now just to use this. I would be tempted to configure a list of essential packages to include in the install instead of post install.

There's a bug in select additional packages that still exists to this day.

I'm using NVIDIA as an example.
If you set NVIDIA as your driver option when choosing a desktop environment and then add NVIDIA packages during select additional packages the installer will get stuck in a conflicting packages loop and your only option is to cancel the installation and restart from the beginning.

The vid is informative about the installer and how to do it. Thanks!

I just use ArcoLinuxB with Calamares but I really like the options in the Arch installer.
The fact that it gives you a choice between Pulse and PipeWire is especially neat.
Maybe next time I decide to reinstall i'll go for vanilla Arch. Honestly, a GUI is not necessary.
