"all gave some; some gave all"

I've heard that quote countless times over the course of my life, but it has never hit me until now. I imagine rationing wasn't everyone's favorite thing in the war, people having to sacrifice things from their own lives to make sure a war could be fought that they have no say in. I bet a lot of people complained, perhaps not publicly but quietly to one another as life went on. I'm a civilian and in poor health, that probably would have been me.

And then there's the gave alls. All the brave men, women, and children who gave everything they have, and everything they are or will ever be.

Makes me want to say a prayer for how disgustingly fortunate I am.

Rest in peace to our loved ones we never knew. Love and respect from my corner in America. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

Lest we forget. As an Australian, I still consider England a part of me as it was the land of my ancestors. 🇦🇺

There were so many SBS and sadly not many people knew about this most elite unit. Rest in peace warriors.

My brother a Scotsman was part of this amazing bunch of people but never spoke about it much. He left to look after his disabled son and raised money for his sons school. Sadly he died aged 46 whilst swimming for charity to raise funds for another disabled child. God bless him and all his comrades past and present.

In the late eighties and during the first Gulf War, I was working for the Sultan of Oman's army. One day, a few SAS lads turned up in our Sergeant's Mess. They had been on some kind of exercise (we didn't ask what and if we had they would not have told us anyway!). They did say that when they landed in Oman, the Omani customs confiscated a lot of their kit as they didn't know what it was or what it was for, and there was no time to argue and get it back through normal channels. And that included their ration packs. Anyway, these lads turned up ravenously hungry from whatever it was they were doing, so we gave them a slap up meal and it was amazing to see what they put away. In the evening we had a great time with a games night with these SAS guys during which a fair bit of ale was got through, in typical Brit army fashion. These were great, well behaved blokes despite the amount of booze consumed and we all had a fantastic evening. Come the morning, they had disappeared off to carry on doing what they were doing. Great blokes, one and all. Thanks for a great night, guys.

RIP Danny Johnston. Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Died 4 years after service when his demons caught up with him. Loved and missed by all who knew him.

The British Special Forces, much loved by Churchill, are the worlds envy...being the blueprint of ALL others.
Even the US S.E.A.L. teams look up to the SAS. So many have fallen, silently into their graves, often forgotten and unmarked on foreign battlefields. They must never be overlooked or forgotten.... 'Who Dares Wins'! We salute you.

We are so lucky as a nation to have these people as part of us. We can never repay what we owe them.
