How To Teach Your Child To Pedal A Bike (Easy 2 Minute Hack!)

Wondering how to teach your child to pedal a bike forward?

Our 3 year old had mastered her balance bike but was struggling to learn to pedal forward. (Kids naturally want to pedal backwards when learning to pedal.)

This super simple and quick hack had her pedaling forward in less than two minutes and then out pedaling on her own in less than 5 minutes!

Remember, results will vary based on how prepared your child really is for a pedal bike. Their developmental readiness and age are also huge factors. If this hack doesn't work the first time, don't give up! Some kids just require a little more practice to master the art of pedaling a bike.

wow what a great time to post this. our daughter just turned three and we got her the same bike, a woom 2, we've done three sessions so far and shes starting to get the pedal direction, but sometimes still goes backwards, her balance is about 50%. It seems like learning both the balance of the bike and pedalling is a little hard. But each time she's making good improvements so I think she's going to be going good soon.

One could also strap up the bike in an overhead bar. The child can climb up and practise all by herself. My little grandson had a small balance bike and a little toy tractor with steering wheel and pedals. A lot of muscle training going uphill. So in the end he combined balancing and steering when he got pedals on the bike.
