Do your finger tips hurt from playing guitar? If so ⛔️ STOP NOW! ⛔️

One of the complaints I get most often from beginner guitar players is that they can't practice for long enough because the tip of their fingers start hurting very quickly 🥺

💡 What if I told you that there is a way to stop this INSANTLY? 💯

➡️ Not only that, the technique below will also improve your playing, speed of chord placement changes and will mean you can play for longer!

📋  First, here are some facts when it comes to finger pain from playing guitar 👇

⚠️If you haven't played in a couple of weeks, you're starting from scratch...build it up slow
⚠️electric is easier than acoustic
⚠️not all acoustics are the same - setup matters
⚠️holding down chords will hurt for a while

With that in mind - here's my top 5 tips for less painful finger tips!

✅️ press down less hard, just enough to get the note ringing out but no more
✅️use good positioning with your fretting fingers right up against the frets
✅️ play little and often, rather than for hours only once a week
✅️learn some single note melodies, not just chords

🎵 Final tip - mix it up! 🎵 Something hurting? Stop that and play something different!

You have to take into consideration not everyone has money to spend on a $1000 guitar. Cheap guitars are going to have more problems with action and what not.

When you're a beginner you have to press hard. Not only will it help develop your strength on fingers and hand, you also learn to play chords clearly (clean sound). That's acoustic. If you want something not as harsh, then start electric.

I'll persist with this method. it's a challenge with A Major, particularly using the "anchor" method, keeping the 1st finger on the 3rd string. Helpful tip in any case.

Great advise but takes a long time to achieve. I do practice chords as well as notes which makes it a lot quicker to change when pressing lightly. I can’t use a plectrum because of arthritis but the thumb works just as well. Thank you Andy.

Meanwhile, even my calluses have calluses 😅

Love that you don't mention action at any point. I remember I was held back by not 1 but 3 guitars with extremely high action as a kid, it wasn't until my friend who was more experienced showed me the difference of his setup vs mine and how important it is to have a properly set up guitar 😅

Thank u for this knowledge...my father passed away 10yrs ago and i just opened up his guitar and tuned it amd my fingers are killing me. It means alot to me for my fathers guitar that he played every day to play again through me..thank u🙏

Depends on your fingers. Everyone is different. I always get groove marks. No matter how light I press.

Of course it also depends on the action of your guitar.

Hey Andy, big fan here. Pretty new to guitar, but I have an issue where I'm not able to spread my fingers far apart, so I end up putting more pressure on the further side of the fret. Any idea how I can fix that?

Whether it’s close to the fret or not it’ll sound like shite if I don’t press hard enough. And that’s fine. I got superhuman finger strength after playing on my cheap guitar 💪🏼

I’ve been playing acoustic guitar for 25 years, pretty seriously for the past 15 years. The trend I’ve noticed is that the more I play, the thicker my callouses, and the thicker my callouses, the deeper and more persistent the grooves get in my fingertips. The callouses get very pliable, almost like silly putty, and it’s impossible not to get grooves. I need to remove layers from my callouses with nail clippers before I can play again.

Na man, my strings are just way to sharp and painful. I'm pretty sure it's a factory defect. Also the string tension on my guitar is insane.

I have to press down really hard to get it to ring out. G string is really painful. The strings aren't that far from the fretboard so I thought it wouldn't be too bad.
