I seriously do freak out when I get a cold because it almost always makes me hoarse. This last cold I had started 2 weeks before I had the start of many gigs for June. The sore throat was major. I got the Sudafed you have to but with ID and that started helping so I would cough or clear my throat and also so I didn’t have that drainage trashing my throat. I used my netti pot, humidifier, I have a nebulizer with saline, and I tried your straw trick with a coffee straw that is the beginner size and that has all helped immensely. I made it thru the first 2 gigs and had a pretty strong voice. As soon as I have some extra money, I’m getting that straw kit!

This helped so much! I'm not necessarily sick but I had cheer and lost my voice from screaming and cheering so loud. I was gonna sing but I sounded like a goat and I was like oh. no. So thank you for the tips

Don’t freak out is a good one. We had a school production coming up a few years ago, and right before the auditions I got a croaky, hoarse voice. I was really freaking out as I had to sing for the auditions and I really wanted the part. I’m the end, all was good and I got it. I was just stressing too much.

I was just on first international tour with my band couple weeks ago. I got sick in the middle of the tour which had a very demanding schedule as it was. What absolutely saved me was my inhaler. Inhaling hot steam before and after concert was the best thing and it helped me finish the tour. I went on antibiotics right after we returned and I'm still recovering trying not to freak out we have a concert in a week
