How to Get Your Voice Back Again!

So you overdid it again and your voice feels like it’s falling apart.

Maybe you went to a bar and had to scream over the music, and had a bunch of drinks, and oh my gosh you ate a bunch of crappy fast food on the way home and you barely slept

Or maybe you had a crazy show where you blew out your voice and you can’t even get a sound out of it

Whatever the reason you lost your voice, I want to show you what can you do to revive it.

Before we get in to how to revive your voice, it’s important to know why you’re hoarse.

The vocal cords swell with fluid in order to protect themselves and begin healing--this temporary swelling is called edema

Because they’re puffy, the vocal cords don’t get as firm of a cord closure leading to hoarseness, breathiness and even some vocal breaks after you’ve overdone it--that’s what we call dysphonia.

Many singers and speakers will need to get their voice back for another performance in a short period of time.

And unfortunately, that anxiety and stress causes most singers to just press more in order to get their voice back.

Thank you for doing this. I was a musician and singer all my life until my home burned down 6 years ago. I lost my voice and have had no instrument to practice with. I miss my piano and guitars so much. Having this is helping my voice which has become unrecognizable since.

I have been doing scales as a warm up before hand, but my singing voice feels like an elastic band that stopped stretching as well. I hope I can get some good tips from your video. Welcome back btw ☺️👊

If the vocal cords are made of mucus and other tissue that vibrates together, and the accumulation of fluid is causing this to not happen properly, why would I drink more water to clear the mucus and add more fluid in there.

How do you know if you have vocal damage?

I've been singing for 20 years and never lost my voice. Now last weekend I had a gig involving some late night partying and singing at nachspiel.

Coming home from the gig my voice we're hoarse, and I had a band practice again that day.. Not listening to my voice, I belted out hoarse again at band practice, and suddenly the day after my voice we're gone. I couldn't speak.

Now 1, 5 week after, I'm still feeling hoarse, and I'm not getting the same belting rasp as earlier. Now that I think about it, I have for the most part been a little hoarse when singing.

I have done this every day:
- Drinking lots of water every day,
- Drinking tea with lemon, honey, cayenne pepper and ginger.
- Doing easy warm ups (Lip trhills, o-wovs etc)
- Trying to be quiet and not strain my voice. (Without the times I've been curious if my range is back again)

Am I doing the right thing, and will it regain the strength in another 1-2 weeks?

I like how the thumbnail has a beer in the picture. I like using beer as a decongestant, but I wouldn't recommend it for restoring a horse voice. The only time I ever lost my voice, and I didn't lose it fully, I overdid the rasp trying to "sound good", and my karaoke performance was probably worse for it. I thought I sounded good, however.

When my voice is shot. I have chest and falsetto, and no mix, nor power in the head voice.
