ABOUT ME: I'm James Dunne, a runner, sports rehabilitation therapist (similar to physical therapist) and coach based in the UK (Norwich and London).

Since 2007 I've been working with athletes focusing specifically on helping distance runners and triathletes overcome injury and improve performance through developing their individual running technique.

Running biomechanics and physical therapy are real passions of mine. I love to help runners run strong and stay injury free.

-slow down: improve breathing, 3 step inhale, 3 step exhale
-posture: open chest, keep shoulder pulled back, head on top of shoulder not in front
-relax upper body: dont clench the fist, instead do something like cradling butterfly on thumb and forefinger. Quick and relaxed arm swing.
-smile: brain thinks thing isnt bad, becomes more relaxed
-relax lower body: avoid lengthening the stride (overstride) as you get tired. Instead make shorter and quicker strides.
-build strength: do workouts to be fit and become stronger runner. Prevent injury.

Thank you so much for this video! I have always had trouble with running, I even hated it cause I always feel out of control and even nauseous at the end of running, BUT after watching your video I was just able to run 1 mile in 20 mins (which doesn’t seem a lot but for me it is) WITHOUT stopping and I feel great after it! Never in my life did I think this could happen! I am so happy I want to cry... Thank you 💕

I just saw a quote from the ultra runner Stian. He said "Running isn't fun until it's easy, so take the time to get fit. " That took away my guilt for feeling like a crappy runner, and not loving running every step. Slow and steady until the fun starts!

Yes the positive attitude when you are faced with an obstacle is very crucial.

Hey James, I started running on the first day of lockdown. I could only run 1 km at a time before needing to rest. Last night, I ran a 5k in 24:53. I've absolutely got the bug. Your videos helped me through a really frustrating hip flexor injury - my glutes are pulling their weight now and it's finally paying off! Thanks for all your content, I'm going to try the breathing tip!

I just found your channel because of your “running with asthma” video and I really appreciate your videos and they inspire me to keep trying to run and not give up.

Awesome advice as always. Especially the smiling one. I always smile when I run and agree it does help.

Important reminders! I always tell new runners to focus on upping their cadence and remember to stay relaxed. Most common mistake I see is people trying to do too much too quickly.

This guy is ON POINT! Especially about skiing while you run. There is a reason the Marines chant while they run. I use the old Marine Corps “Feels Good! PT! GOOD FOR YOU, AND GOOD FOR ME! I’m subscribed and enjoying the BEST run coaching/info channel I’ve seen in the past 5 years of my running quest. This guy is GREAT! 👍🏽

Great tips again James. Even as an experienced running it’s still good and sometimes necessary to be reminded of the basics now and again 👍🏻 Love the butterfly/crisps analogy. I LOVE crisps!

I have followed your advice for some time now. I have tons of problems in my body with real disability, and I am a bit too heavy.
So, I have practice every morning and evening your videos. Something happened with my running in treadmill, and it feels oddly like I relax my feet when forward.
"it cannot be this easy!"
The movement comes when the foot is under, not before...
I am just rolling with it.
