Asheville is getting the bulk of press coverage. Many other areas have been strongly impacted as well. Don't forget about them. I have family in Boone area and it's bad and all parts in between them and Asheville. Ppl that live in the more rural parts are in dire straits I'm sure. Don't forget about them.

We need the water filter manufacturers to stand up! A mud puddles' water can be made safe, as a former long distance hiker, I know first-hand!

Unfortunately power to gas stations may result in contaminated fuel.

Can't be compared to Katrina; during Katrina people died waiting on an elevated platform area, help that never came. THIS time food and water are being dropped by air. In our prayers all of you.

The Gov didnt learn from Katrina. The Gov didnt learn from Harvey, nor Irma, Maria, and now Helene.

Nearly 20 years now of failing responses. Its maddening!

FEMA and The National Guard have made it Asheville and some surrounding areas. Many roads to more rural areas are still impassable due to washed out roads, downed trees and landslides.
Does anyone know how Black Mountain is doing?

Need to get the farm animals at least hay in boats.. I’m sure they have nothing and were left behind, sad knowing even the people are having an impossible time getting out of some areas.. eye opener on how fragile we are to mother nature..

I am shocked, that it looks like ppl literally did NOTHING, they were caught flat footed, they didn't take ANY of the warnings seriously...i am shocked!

I was talking to a stranger online, he was like, oh im up in the mountains so im safe, and I'm like dude have you never seen the mudslides that happen in China!
Another report i read, these 20 something year olds were just chilling like it was a regular day, no prep, no worries, just sitting there playing uno, but instead of playing games they should've been watching the news, because they had to flee the house when mudslides started coming thru the windows, one girl had to run barefoot and by the time she got to some safety, she realized she was still holding the uno cards.
Seems like ppl didn't even put valuables in protective plastic! People saying they lost precious photos but if they were so precious, then why not put them in bags, sealed up for protection from the predicted floods that you were warned about.

Things not tied down, perishables not protected, i am completely shocked that ppl who choose to live away from big populations weren't more self sufficient. Im in NYC, i am prepared for black out, hunkering down for hurricanes and snow storms, plenty back up water, even got precious photos and stuff ready to go if there's a fire. It's crazy to me that they didn't prepare better.
There are ways to seal your house to stop water from getting in,

i guess i misunderstood ther type of ppl that lived there, im a child of immigrants and i always imagined that these were pull yourself up by your bootstraps areas and they had what it took to survive, and that's why they chose to live in such small towns, ....guess i misunderstood the ppl of that region real bad.

I hope they'll do better next time. 😢

Fortunately I have water but have to boil it for 10 minutes to make sure it is safe to drink. My cell phone gets 4 bars but it connects to nothing, I tried calling 911 but it never connects so if I need help I can not get any. My internet is cable internet and thankfully has been functioning without any problems so I can watch YT to see what is happening in the rest of WNC. But our supermarkets, two small ones for 14, 000 people in the county, are empty. All our food used to come from I-40 and the Asheville distribution center.😢
