Trying to clean away shame can become like trying to clean away any contamination--it only creates more struggling with our mental health and we just get more stuck. As people explore what's underneath many OCD, BPD, GAD, and depression compulsions, they'll often uncover a blob of shame lurking there. But like any intrusive thoughts or whatever uncomfortable experiences our brains can throw up, we can bring it all along with us while we live our lives. We don't need to put life on hold to clean away shame. But we can give it kindness and compassion as we take steps forward.
