*cries silently in POC* (because if I cry out loud they’ll ’give me something to cry about).

to quote my balcanic mother "I made you, I kill you" such words of endearment 🥰

With love and solidarity from this eldest daughter of a family. "Loving a child is setting them up to be spoiled, " was the predominant attitude in my family. I got the leather belt most often, along with shoes, the wooden spoon, being locked outside of the house in the cold, "go ahead and call CPS and see what happens, because they'll separate you and your little brother, " etc. I am horrified how long it took me to stop normalizing it to myself to make it okay. It took many years and multiple people reacting like this to stories I thought were innocent and normal before I could even begin to address it. Cultural norms are such a force to be reckoned with.

0:47 There’s a whole cottage industry with Indian jokes about slippers and belts as a weapon of choice in many households. Extending solidarity. Sending thoughts and prayers

My first word was 'cooperate'.
My daughter's first word was 'hi'.

This is also pretty common in Hispanic households, at least some Dominican and Venezuelan ones that I am aware of.

I was mentally abused by my parents too and physically abused by a teacher and several classmates. It really mess me up and made me think that I was bad. I'm not Asian, so I don't mean to take anything away from your pain. I'm just trying to say that maybe we're all united in our pain no matter our background.

Yeah, I remember dad literally slapping the tears out of me. Yes, I did get straight A's in high school...
I don't know what my first words were. Pretty much my parents didn't feel I was important enough to remember things like that for. Like, what time of day I was born, when I took my first steps, my first words, my birthday...

How many times do we have to tell you not to accept sponsorships from Better Help? That company is a scam that never helps anyone and just wants to profit off of consumer data.

Anna, you have ~3mil subs, you can choose to be picky with the sponsorships you choose. Betterhelp is not a good choice.

I’m always an advocate for securing the bag… but maybe not from BetterHelp? Please don’t

1:54 “Oh because they’d get investigated again…” 😂😂 I am DECEASED💀👻

Like this really shouldn’t be funny, but love to everyone like me who finds it HILARIOUS and relatable because we’re all a little dead inside and could use the laugh. And the therapy.

You can find abusive parents all over the world and it's not just Asian upbringing. I grew up in an abusive family raised in Spain by Spanish parents. As an adult I worked in child protection in Chile and again found the same pattern of abusive parents😥

Those things are normal in a PuertoRican household! But don’t worry I’m in therapy!
