Emotional Eating Myth

A big challenge that can make it really hard, if not impossible to have the easy, peaceful, aligned relationship with food and your body is addressing emotional eating.  So I want to share a case study with you of a client who really struggled with her food.

When she was stressed, she would eat.  When she was bored, she would eat.  When she was tired, she would eat – and I think you get the idea.  Now this was important to address for her – because she has such a full life.  I mean although it can be tempting to try to make your life trigger-free – but it just doesn’t work that way.

So what she had to do.

🥑Determine the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.
🥑Sometimes she was able to determine the cause – which could really be helpful, and other times she just wasn’t able to figure out why.  And I feel this is key – often times we spend too much time trying to figure out the why.  And not enough time on how to address the emotional eating when the trigger happens in a way that works for us.
🥑Then – we didn’t work on giving her a substitution.  Now this is important for you to know – when you have the emotional urge to eat – I mean, the desire to eat, and it doesn’t come from physical hunger – when you try to distract yourself – sometimes you can make it worse!
🥑Remember, the urge to eat something when you are not hungry at all is not random or arbitrary.  That urge is coming from someplace.  So part of what we worked on was expanding her capacity to feel certain emotions.  As well as strategies to help her process her feelings without chewing.
🥑She was amazed by her experience through our work together – because – as it can happen, her life did get more stressful.  She was pleased because not only did she know what to do when the urge would come up – but she was shocked that in more and more situations she wasn’t even drawn to food like she was in the past!!

A big myth is the belief that overcoming emotional eating takes massive self-control – but it turns out the opposite is true.  It’s only when we finally give ourselves permission to surrender to experience the full range of what it means to be human – we no longer need to use food to soothe what it feels like to be alive.

If you want some of this for yourself, in a few weeks I am offering The Foundations of Food Freedom Masterclass.  It runs over 12 weeks, 10 modules that provide the foundational tools to help you feel relaxed with food and connected to your body, Q&A session, weekly “Hungerwork” and my love pouring into every session we have together.

If you are afraid you have no time: we meet once a week for 60-90 minutes.  If you can’t make it, that’s ok, calls will be recorded so you can watch it whenever – the videos are yours to keep for a lifetime.  Besides, just image how much more time, energy, peace of mind, clarity, focus, etc you will have when you don’t have to worry about food anymore!

If you feel afraid that it’s just too hard, you’ve tried too many things and you just won’t be able to do it: Almost 100% of my clients start out thinking that they are destined to struggle with food forever, and I understand that completely.  However – that’s only true if you don’t do anything to address it!  That’s why so many of my clients are pleased when they finally have the tools to navigate even the most challenging food scenarios.

Hope you found this vid helpful!
