Another important part of starting a lawncare business is being able to cut straight lines

Hank would be very disappointed in those lines and the low effort.

as a gardener if I did lines like that I’d never seen that garden again

Best part about a lawn care business, is learning how to mow… sheesh.

Best tip I can give is there is no competition, set your price to what you need & enjoy… other companies will come and go they aren’t worth worrying about.

Here in New Zealand the majority of lawn care providers don't even do the edges so having any form of lines is just a bonus - simply doing the edges sets me miles above the rest. Huge gap in the market here.

I started a lawn care business with my dad, and now 3 years later were. Now doing trees, ponds, bushes and shrubs, and Plowing 😎💪🏾 take pride in your work and it will pay off, we're not rich but our clients are super loyal to us

I'm a one man show here. I own and operate my lawn care business and I make between 60-70 bucks per hour. It's good money but hard work especially when its 100 degrees outside. You have to think about advertising, uniforms, fuel, equipment maintenance costs, taxes, and liability insurance. The most difficult part of the job is not being able to do scheduled work because of bad weather(rain) and being in constant contact with the customers; having people call and text you all day while your working. Then finding time to do estimates. I would recommend hiring at least one person to help you that can work almost as hard as you, so you double your productivity. Just make sure you can trust them and they don't try to shark your customers behind your back.

I have a similar business but we do more then just cut grass we check irrigation, pick weeds, trim plants, and much more definitely have room to make more money when it’s time to scalp grass that’s another area where I make money also, definitely when customers want to add grass or get rid of or even add desert scape to there yards. If your just cutting grass yes very hard to make money but if your doing more then that then definitely worth the cash flow I went from a maintenance business to a landscape business to a demolition business and the list just grew from there so not a bad idea If you want to get into this field

You better straighten up those lines if you want to retain those customers.

And make sure you get a 21 inch push mower. Keep cost down. Don't get an expensive commercial mower that would cut that yard in about 6 minutes

My nephew started out like this - 30 years later he owns a very successful landscaping business that has dozens of employees, and also does hardscape in addition. He has several books with photos of multiple & various projects. Some are quite extravagant.

This right here, Maitenence will only get you so far. You either get like 30 accounts and be contempt in living a modest paying job but never really going anywhere. Or get licensed to do contraction jobs on top of that, which will increase your profits. But at the same cost of hiring more employees and having to scale the company to be bigger to keep jobs going in a timely and efficient manner. It’s a vicious cycle of trial and error to see what works for you.

Yes and no, I started one in January 2021 but quickly worked my up to a new zero turn within 7 months, and I paid for it cash. Because I didn’t want to worry about payments.

I started a lawn service in highschool. Got in good with banks and realtors and got clients quick. Was making 6 figures by my senior year only working 28 weeks out of the year.

If you knew how to actually cut lawns, you’d make some money out of it… ffs.

Depends on your area...I can cut by myself yards that pay $45 and take me 45 minutes. As far as competition...a lot of guys try to start but fail to show up reliably. If you can show up on the right day, do a decent cut and make the whole thing as little hassle for the customer as possible, you will keep yours and get other customers from the guys who can't.

Is it just me or is it so satisfying to watch someone mow a lawn during the winter?
