Do you want to start your own business, but aren’t sure how to do it right? Getting a mentor to guide you can be a huge help. Nic Reed’s mentor Mike Andes is teaching him how to start a lawn care business, and he’s sharing his lawn care business tips with us in this video.

Nic made a smart pick choosing Mike as his mentor. Mike paid his way through college mowing lawns, then used that experience to start a landscaping business after he earned his MBA. Today, he helps other business owners succeed through his work as a consultant and his podcast, Business Bootcamp.

A lawn care business is a great choice for a first-time entrepreneur because you don’t need a ton of money or experience to get started. A lawn care business start up has a high revenue potential, too.

Nic’s goal is to reach $160K in revenue in his first year. In this interview, we’ll learn how he plans to market his new lawn mowing business and build his client list to hit that benchmark.

There are a lot of steps to opening any successful business. We’ll walk through them with Mike and Nic and find out which step they’re on. Part of starting a lawn care business is getting the right equipment to do the job. In this video, we’ll find out which tools Mike recommends and how to source them to get both quality and a fair price.

If you’ve ever wondered how to start a landscaping business, you’ll definitely want to check out this video and keep an eye out for updates as we follow along with Nic’s progress.

If you’ve been thinking about starting this business please do it. I got fired from my job doing the same things mowing and landscaping so I decided to do it myself and I’m making 2x what I made working at that job and it’s barely my 2nd month. On a mission to 6 figures! Bless up champs

Most people can start with a good push mower weed eater and a leaf lower. I bought a toro push mower from Tractor supply for $500, Poulan pro leaf blower from tractor supply for $99 and a Husqvarna weedeater from a dealership for $300. Say trimmer line, gas cans, gas and oil for $100 total. I already had a pick up truck. About 1000 bucks is a good start. The hardest part (which really isn't hard) is going out and looking for yards. I did ol fashioned door to door and it seemed to work well. Just don't get discouraged when they say "no, I don't need you to cut my lawn." All of this extra stuff in the vid is great. But I would advise starting off on your own 1st.

Wow everything I had to learn on my own.. even the way you have to simplify things. Mowing is were the money is. Services. You go back to the same customer.. then they are your base for Landscape.. also. . I've learned the mentoring process own my owen still today I learn . You have to poke around for a little. Until you learn the rops.. but lawncare business I had to do completely on my own. Good for him. . Hope he dos good. And welcome to the lawncare community... its a friendly place.

Thing with starting up this type of business is that all you need you already have. Chances are you have a lawnmower and a truck, or at least a car. Bring along that and a few rakes and your golden.

What Mike does isn't for everybody. What I've done to improve myself in my business is to take the ideas or little tricks or different methods of doing things paying attention to the small details of how stuff to organize being the trailer everything is about saving time which saves money and applying that to your business. Your business does not have to be Augusta for you to be happy and successful

When i started, i started this year with a small murray push mower with no bag and a rake no weedeater. From that i uprgaded to a honda push mower still no weedeater. Now i have a truck. Didnt save much money since i focused on equipment like 3 weedeaters, 2 lawnmowers, blower, edger and a vehicle but im set and ill be more then ready next year thank the lord.

I bought a Stihl blower for 500, a used Honda 21 for like 300, a new weed eater for about 275, and started selling cleanups on the side, I used the money I made to buy everything else. Then with my paychecks from my job I would buy tools for the job I was going to do next and charge a little higher to make sure my tools bought themselves more or less and now I have everything I need to go solo.
