The last scene was shot literally a mile away from my home town. I was prolly 14 15 at that time and had no idea about the premise of the movie and i literally recognise half of the extras shown in that last scene. Also the himalayas shown in the background is a CGI although it is visible from where they shot this scene its still very far and only the peak of the Himalayas is seen

For those who haven't seen it do so. It's in my top 10 of all time movies. A real adventure

I honestly thought the actor who played as Mr. smith would playing as a German soldier but as a American Citizen/Soldier because 2-3 WW2 movies that I have watched I have seen him played as a German Sniper on 2 movies and as a Commander

This film is based on the book "The Long Walk." It is a true account of an escape from Siberia. The movie is inferior to the book by a long way. A pretty good movie is "As Far as My Feet Can Take Me." It's a true account of a German soldier who escapes from Magadan.

Up to 1.7 million Poles plus Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians and others, men women and children, were deported when the Soviet Union invaded these countries in 1939-1940. We will not know exactly how many until the KGB archives are opened (if ever!) Some died on the way, some died in the Gulags or forced labour on collective farms. The scale is staggering, but small compared to what the Soviets did to their own citizens.
Incidentally, in 1941, when Stalin released some of the Polish prisoners to fight the Germans, over 100 thousand of them had to make their way across Siberia by their own efforts to join the Polish army in Soviet Central Asia, some of them travelling as much as 9000 kilometers. This film is a small piece of the overall picture. This is still happening now, on a smaller scale and will continue to happen unless we all finally recognise what really happened.

I've read about this story from the book "The Great Escape". They made a few changes in the film, but most of the parts are accurate.

Main character's name is Janusz not some Janisek / Janisex, there are no such names in Poland and never have been... 🧐
