As an Iranian, I wish more people understood that these stories are not just fiction, they reflect real pain many women have faced.
I also wish the world knew how brave Iranian women truly are. They’ve been fighting for freedom in silence for decades

Just watched the the last 30-40 mins. Her escape was absolutely nerve wreaking, she's so incredibly strong. All those people that helped her escape bless every single one of them. That man that saved her and walked her thru the desert alone, such a sweetheart. I hope she life was nothing but kind, full of love, pure bliss after coming home. She deserves nothing but good.

The Kurds helped her escape, too. They are awesome people. Sally Field was so great in "Not Without My Daughter." What a story. Bone chilling.

Every American woman should watch this movie
“Not Without My Daughter.”
Even though this occurred 40 years ago, not much has changed.

I'm so glad that Betty and Mahtob got out of Iran a long time ago and are living in the USA.

What kind of fool treats his wife and kid that way. He didn't deserve to be forgiven.

I saw the movie when I was a child and impacted me so much that I never had any romantic relationship with a Muslim man. Ever.

My friend in Manchester was married to a Saudi senior lecturer at Manchester University. They had 2 boys aged 9 and 7.He arranged for them to go to Saudi for 2 weeks in the long vacation to see his parents. He seemed to be completely westernised. At the last minute I persuaded her not to go.I took the boys to my sisters in Middleton, while she waited at home in Salford, until he came back from his office at the University.
She told him that only he and she were going to Saudi. He shouted at her, grabbed his suitcases and went out of the door to a waiting taxi.
She and the boys went to her mother's home near by.Two weeks later she got a phone call .He said " I divorce you" three times. He added, "I have married a second wife in Saudi, who is now my only wife" My friend found out that he had taken all their assets to Saudi, She had to go to Court to get an English Divorce and the right to sell their home.Amazingly the Court awarded him half the proceeds She had to pay off the mortgage and move in with her mother. All this happened in the 1990s and she has never heard of him from that day to this. It would make a good movie.

I watched the movie a long time ago! I finally read Betty’s book and Mahtob’s book a few years ago! Mahtob’s book corroborated everything her mother has said! It also talks about the steps Betty had take in the US to prevent Mahtob from being kidnapped and returned to Iran! I would highly recommend both books!

I just watched the movie and it was so gut wrenching. I can’t imagine the man you’ve loved and the father of your child completely changing and becoming your abuser/kidnapper. I am so glad they made it out of that nightmare💜

"You're never going to leave Iran"...….that doesn't go over too well to free born American women.

I can guarantee you that Betty does NOT regret escaping Iran with her daughter. She was a VERY brave lady, but she HAD to do it. Because it was the ONLY way she and her daughter were going to good out of THAT country
They were being held against their will, they BOTH wanted to leave but they were NOT allowed to. It was either stay there and die, or escape/ or die trying to. Either way they were going to die. As it turned out, they succeed in escaping and they both outlived their captor. They were free and together.

I just watched the movie about her and I have to say she is such a good mother and strong woman I don't even know how she coped living in Iran for 2 years and everything he put her through I'm so glad they got out....it's sad to think that there's other women and children being held against their will in other countries

This movie changed the way I saw history. My summer history credits teacher showed this to us in the summer of 06’ right in the middle of the Iraq war. He said it was for a reason since we’re studying contemporary history and boy was he right. Thank you Mr. McDermott not only did you teach me about many different wars but also economics my senior year.

This movie is so amazing though, everyone should watch it at least once especially since it is free, plus it has Sally Field.
