However, among the good eggs, there are always bad ones. Today, we cover DKOldies and how they use deceipt and price gouging to ripoff and potentially even SCAM their customers.

its simple: they buy used retro consoles on ebay or garage sales, wipe them down quick, see if they work, mark it as Refurbished (they dont even open them), and sell them for triple the cost. theyre the used car salesmen of gaming

Fun fact: they destroyed 2 fake gameboys in a video from 7 years ago. Turns out they were rare original gameboy advances made for the Chinese market. And they are worth 300 US dollars

DKOldies says that people were hating on them because of envy but it's actually people exposing them.

I once bought a N64 with a copy of Mario kart from DK oldie’s and what they send was a rusty N64 that was missing multiple important components that are needed for the console to work and they gave me a smashed copy of Mario kart.

They made me pay $100 bucks for an N64, it looked as if it was thrown down the stairs and it was rusted inside.

The worst thing about dko is they influence the prices. An old guy at a garage sale literally told me he was selling his sons old games based off of that websites prices. Retro game prices has skyrocketed..and dk oldies is 1 of the many factors

Fun Fact: if you live in the U.S, Ignore any sticker that says your warranty will be void if you remove or puncture it. not only is it illegal to deny warranty from someone opening their console, its also not enforceable.

Another reason a lot of collectors hate DKOldies is because one of their videos shows them destroying an extremely rare GBA SP because they thought it was a counterfeit, meaning they just destroyed a piece of history, and don't have knowledgeable, reliable people behind the scenes.

I like to go to thrift stores a lot, and I'll often purchase old consoles i come across them. I test them, repair them if i can, and sell them, rarely ever making more than 20 dollars. I've even sold some at a loss if repair costs are high. I do this because im passionate about game preservation and accessibility. It disgusts me how people like this are taking advantage of people. I also have bought consoles off ebay and other websites, and had not once had an encounter with a dishonest seller. They usually list if something is wrong with it.

I remember one buyer came over with his kids, and their eyes lit up at the idea that they can play wii again after their previous one had broke, and thats what keeps me doing what i do

DkOldies is one of the main reasons I advocate for emulation it is absolutely outrageous people who just want to play older games are forced to pay hundreds or even thousands for old game when you can always just emulate for free

One bad thing about DKoldies is that it influences the market and makes cheap consoles super expensive even if it is used like the new 2ds XL

This is why emulation is important and needs to be embraced for the preservation of all video games. These hacks prey on people’s nostalgia

I recently purchased a wavebird from DKOldies. It was my first purchase from them and I was unaware of the controversy, but was shocked by the state it was in when it arrived. I was told it was “refurbished”, but the joysticks were worn and were clearly not replaced, the “handles” of the controller had a weird sticky film I needed to take a Clorox wipe to, and one of the triggers had brown grime at the base. I ended up taking the thing apart and cleaning the pieces and board because I was so grossed out by that brown grime. But even still, the joysticks were super worn. I ended up buying replacements for those too to help it feel “new” again. The fact that I needed to put so much extra effort (and expense) after purchasing an already expensive product completely soured my experience with the company. I wouldn’t touch them with a 10-foot pole, and this video helps validate my experience with them. Thank you for bringing attention to this creator and leading potential buyers to something much more worth their time

The sad thing is they don’t actually target game collectors, they target their friends and family who want to be generous and give them something they love. I’ve talked to my family about some things I collect and they usually guess things are a lot more than their worth, so they guess that they are actually reasonably priced

DKOldies would be a great company if they priced their consoles reasonably and actually refurbished them.
The "warranty void if removed" stickers are also illegal too!
