My wife moans that I'm always on AutoTrader, now she thinks I've really lost the plot, watching a video on the TV of somebody else looking on AutoTrader😂

Volvo V70, lots of load space, super comfy, the D5 is good on diesel. £2000-£10000

As a happy estate driver Im going to enjoy this. It's crazy to think that a corresponding (year, size, equipment) SUV will cost 50% more average, have a worse ride and use more fuel.

Matt, I've been watching you for years (4 in fact), but I've only just subscribed to your channel. I wanted to say you're one of the very few honest and sincere YouTubers on the platform. Keep up the fantastic work, and I wish you all the success.

I’ve had a 2019 XF Sportbrake for a couple of years, huge space, comfort, a looker and perfect for European road-trips giving 50mph fully loaded with 600 miles + range, just have to make sure to over-service to avoid the reliability issues. I now struggle to
Imagine life without a large estate, lifestyle choice!

I bought a VW Golf 7.5 estate last year and I am super happy with it. I have all the space I need for my two large dogs in the back, suspension is nice with smaller wheels and Android Auto works flawlessly. The 1.5 TSI pulls nicely when needed as the Golf is much lighter than the Passat, Superb, Arteon or any SUV with the same engine and it does 50 mpg on the motorway, high 30s to 40s in town. Insurance is also cheap and maintenance/parts you can get anywhere for a Golf. Also looks smart.

Really like this “shopping” format. It shows your enthusiasm and knowledge. Very authentic!

Missed the Toyota estates - these are the most common cab cars, they last forever.

Mazda 6 Tourer, brilliant car. Getting rare now they stopped them in the UK. Petrol though, not diesel!

EX motoring hack here, now in the private hire business. So I do know a bit about cars and having looked at all these with a view to acquiring a large executive class estate to do inter city and airport runs. We already have three Skoda Superb estates, and there's a very good reason they are so popular with taxi/PH drivers.
However the absolute revelation is the car for people 'who are not into cars'. I bought a Volvo V90 D4 Momentum with a number of extra packs with the 'blond' interior. It had £30K on it and got it for £22K in early 2023. It's done just over 80K with us, with no problems. It'll do 48-50mpg on motorway, 38mpg urban in eco mode, in dynamic mode it goes like the clappers. The interior is terrific and gets at least 3-4 comments a week from passengers and request bookings over the Skodas. Loads of kit, including full pilot assist, and was cheaper to buy than the nearest equivalent Skoda - although in reality there is no equivalent Skoda. Prior to the Volvo (my first) I ran an E-class. Nice as it was, the V90 knocks it into a cocked hat.

Ford Mondeo ST220 also deserves a shout. You can get them for fairly cheap at the moment (fast fords have a reputation for appreciating so it's probably a case of buy it now while you can).

Recently bought a 2009 525d Touring. Absolutely great, fast but not crazy, 3L BMW engine, huge space and hits 50mpg on motorway run, 40+ on A roads
Really recommend! Plus, it was ‘a lot of car for the money’ at just £3900. They are rare cars tbf, think just 30, 000 were sold hence higher price for second hand ones

For me the sweet spot is a 2016 E class estate. The new model with the new engines came out in 2016 and so there is a 6 month sweet spot where you get £35 road tax before the 2017 change in rates. The 2.0 diesel is amazingly responsive and pulls better than the old 2.7 lump. Inside - go for the 11 inch screen and it should not date so much.
I just got the 2016 brochure and specced one as if I was buying it new and then waited for one to come along that fitted. Metallic red, cream leather and black wood dash. Had it 2 years and they seem to be about the same price I paid for it!
It eats up long trips but still takes three big bags of hedge cuttings to the tip! Really cheap to run and maintain but looks and feels like an expensive car.

Mk3 Skoda Superb Estate 280 DSG 4 x 4 here. Fabulous car. Got it at 2.5 years old in 2018 at half the price when it was new in 2016. Bags of room, very fast & currently only 61k on the clock. Not the most fuel efficient as a petrol but the grin factor is worth it.

CLS shooting brake absolute classic piece of design, nicer than the coupe by a country mile.
Still look good now.
