I think it could be interesting to see him being slowly corrupted by ideology and the politics of it all, the power. He doesn't need to be born evil, he doesn't need to turn evil last minute. It could be a very realistic progression. Let's hope it's that.

Unpopular opinion. I actually think this is a great Hunger Games story, especially considering everything going on in the world.

Why not have a slowly corrupted hero?

And Suzanne Collins can write about whatever she is passionate about. An author doesn't owe their readers the answers they want.

am i the only one that doesn't care who actually is the protagonist as long as it will be done well?

A story about Haymitch or another side character during the hunger games would, in many ways, tell a story we’ve already seen with Katniss and Peeta. A story about the fall of district 13 and the creation of the hunger games (which was actually what I was expecting, and still would love to read about) would also be telling a story that we already know, at least partially. A story about President Snow, we’re crossing into new territory. We’ve never followed a character raised in the capitol, and I’m looking forward to see that.

Better title... The Hunger Games: Snowfall.

President Snow is the most interesting character in the entire HG universe. From drinking poison for the purpose of rising to power in questionable ways to selling finick into prostitution, there is so many things I want more information on.

What I don’t get is why people don’t like the idea of portraying a fascist as likable/charming/humanizing them. Because
1. Everyone’s a human, regardless of what they’ve done.
2. Leaders are usually charismatic. That’s what makes them so dangerous. We should portray them that way, because we need to realize that the worst among us are often the most alluring to follow.
3. It’s compelling to see a good person be corrupted by a longing for power or some other motivation gone wrong. At least, imo it is.

I’m sorry but when did the fans start to dictate what the author should create? Suzanne Collins creates the Hunger Games... she is and should be the only authority on her own creation.

Charming likeable and the hero just sounds like a sociopath. They always think they're the hero of the story.
Why would people think that snow created the Hunger Games?? Hes not old enough

I don’t understand why everyone thought it was about Haymitch! She released that it would take place during the 10th Hunger Games when Haymitch wasn’t even alive yet.

If the protagonist was a tribute, there would be no risk. Either they would die or they would survive, but nothing would really change. This way we get an true insight on the capitols view on the hunger games, why they never rebelled, why they thought it's a good thing for 75 years. I'm excited.

She writes with such detailed intention that I feel like good guy goes bad is too obvious for her. I'm getting more of a "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" vibe. He starts compromising his morals/integrity to keep her alive but as it progresses his decision making becomes more selfish as he starts to realize how easy it can be to rationalize evil acts if you have a "good cause". I feel like it's going to end up a commentary on how if you go that route you never really were good to begin with.

Here’s a random thought so sorry if it doesn’t make sense when you think about it:
What if it’s Snow being a hero... to the capitol. Like we still see that everything he’s doing is deeply disturbed. BUT we see his cruelty and horribleness, especially toward the districts, and we see how it is ENCOURAGED by the other people in the Capitol. We see how they nurture this part of him and how it becomes a thriving part of his character. A hero, but only from the perspectives the bad guys.

Am i the only one actually excited about this book? I want to see what transformed him into what he was in the first books.

Is everyone forgetting that it’s President Snow not game leader Snow? This is about his rise to power. Should be interesting.

As a writer you need to think about "what's the point of the book, what's the deeper message I want to send", especially if you're talking about a prequel/sequel to something. It shouldn't be about milking the universe you created for more money. It should add something to the story. What would a haymich or mags/the first hunger games story add? It could add something, I just don't see what that would be except more of what we've seen already. When she wrote the first hunger games she intentionally chose these hunger games to present this world to use - there was a reasoning for it, probably because it has the best story, the best arc.
So when she decided to write a prequel there needed to be a different viewpoint, something new that adds something to the story. I'm not bothered it's about president Snow, that doesn't say much yet and I'm willing to give it a shot. Saying he'll be the hero - the way that they wrote it - can also just mean that he will be perceived as the hero by the population. It doesn't mean the reader will see him as a hero. And even if she does mean that, it could be a Death Note/Code Geass type of story, which - if done right - would be amazing.
I'm intrigued about talking how the hunger games came to be. I think that would be very relevant to our life's in the present. I don't think it could happen to us but I would like to see more in detail how it happens in the story: what's the political, economical, social backdrop? (Just like with the handmaid's tale. The prequel to that was a disappointment though...) And even if snow is a mentor in this, it could still give more information about how they got to this position in the first place. And it could be that the girl wins the hunger games because snow is such an evil genius and pushes her to be ruthless. She then turns away from him disgusted but he is recognised as a talent by others in the system and given a chance to prove himself. That's how he works himself up to a better position, climbing the ladder to president. Just an idea

I think that calling him "a hero" has more to do with who's the hero depends on who's telling the story

Suzanne collins is an incredible writer, she crafted the world of panem so cautiously and carefully to parallel the corruption and dictatorship in our wolrd, I'm pretty sure she's gonna wow all of us with a different villian orgin story that doesn't fall in the basic-seen-it-before trope.

oh no, I'm so excited about the book, but now that you mentioned that possible plot I'm sceptical
That being said, people on Twitter who call this "problematic" make me eyeroll so hard. "How dare collins write about her own villain she

Honestly, I find the plot of this story more interesting than what I originally thought it was going to be about. This is more than just another character’s experience in the games. I feel like this is going to do more for world building, and more for adding to the perspective of the story. I’m really excited!!
