Improving Shoulder Girdle Stability After Surgery | Bankart, SLAP, & Rotator Cuff Repairs
Показать описание
This patient underwent a complex repair for the shoulder. He had a Bankart lesion repair, superior labrum from anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesion repair, and supraspinatus (rotator cuff) repair. His progress has been phenomenal in the 8.5 months since the surgery.
He has progressed to late Phase 3 rehabilitation based on right to left-side comparison:
✅ Equal and pain-free range of motion (ROM)
✅ Strength within 90%
Current rehab goals are:
✅ Improve strength/power/endurance
✅ Improve neuromuscular control/dynamic stability
✅ Improve scapular muscular strength
Here are two different throwing techniques into the rebounder with a weighted (two-pound) ball. The first version is a traditional throwing motion. The second version is a javelin motion where the arm travels in a straight line progressing through the throw. It is essential to have restored proper thoracic rotation to perform the javelin motion. A deficit in thoracic rotation will result in scapular dyskinesia creating a perfect opportunity for impingement and/or tendinopathy.
The long-term goal is to maximize his function and remain pain-free. He is a former collegiate decathlete and current coach for high school cross-country and track and field.
Effective and efficient rehab is criterion-based, not time-based.

Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. STOP exercising if you experience any symptoms of weakness, unsteadiness, light-headedness/dizziness, chest pain or pressure, nausea, or shortness of breath.
Performing these exercises should not cause pain. If you experience pain while exercising, decrease the speed of your movement. If the pain persists - STOP. Mild soreness after exercising may be experienced after beginning a new exercise.
