In the United States, 97 percent of teenage boys play video games, and with competitive e-sports on the rise, gaming will only become more popular and available. But when a hobby turns into an unhealthy habit, where do gamers turn? As Cristina Quinn reports, they may not have to go too far to find help.

just use video games as a reward, I have trained, studied, went out for a walk, journaled, meditated and been productive today now I can play video games for 4 hours and enjoy myself with my friends

COVID fucked me. It strapped me of my sports clubs, my only source of self esteem and social interactions. I filled that void with playing highly addictive games online, in fact, the most addictive of them all: Ark Survival Evolved

Yeah I really resonated with using video games as an outlet to turn off negative emotional thinking/thoughts. In real life, you don’t get endless positive reinforcement like you do in WOW, FF14, Fortnite or others. Video games aren’t the root problem in some people’s lives to be sure, but they can be used in very dysfunctional ways.

For me games kinda regulate themselves, i used to spend a lot of time on them but now i dont feel like it but i get moments where i want to play a game just for fun every now and again.

I agree hughly with this video, Covid really fucked me, my academic and sport went really down, I just keep consoling myself that everything will be alright and it doesn't take me more than a few hours to lose motivation and get back into old habits again. I am beyond redemption

It's the thrill of violence and achievement and success and victory and winning that people are addicted to and the problem with the mobile game is that it's a heck of a lot easier to access one because many are free and out of the ones that are free, many are ongoing for you have to keep playing them on and on and on and on forever or at least an extremely long time. There is no end. Your brain thinks that it's being rewarded, but all you're doing is staring at pixels. You're not actually achieving anything. You're wasting time, you're not eating, you're not sleeping, you're not interacting with real, actual people. What's more, if you play a console game like for the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, You're staring at a television screen, so the screen is big enough that you won't have to get right up to it. With a mobile screen because it's smaller, you're going to be a lot closer to it which is much worse for your eyes which will dry out your eyes and strain them. For the record, I'm not speaking out about video games, although video game addiction can be terrible too. I'm talking about mobile game addiction, which is much worse.

In my experience cold turkey is the only way. If it works for others than that’s great.
