For millions of people, video gaming is nothing more than a source of entertainment and connection. So, when does the amount of time spent playing cross the line into problematic behaviour?

BBC News has gained exclusive access to a clinic for gaming disorders - the only treatment facility of its kind in the UK.

Gaming Disorder is a controversial condition defined by the World Health Organization by characteristics including impaired control when gaming and prioritising gaming over other interests.

This is ridiculous, the gaming industry has only just begun. It's funny how if you play games and earn money doing it, it's considered a disease, but if you work 12 hours a day busting your balls in a factory job, it's fine.

I'm 53, but every ten years there is something that we need to keep teens away from. It was "Heavy Metal" music when I was a child.
I'm a lifelong gamer and still listen to Heavy Metal music, but somehow, my brains aren't leaking out of my head yet...

There are more aspects to consider with RPG than are addressed here. Many people who game derive some important interpersonal connection and creative expression through gaming. It’s not just dopamine from screen time. You work with a team, you have control and can do some amazing things virtually. You get to be a hero, rescue characters, slay monsters. During lockdown for some of us it was how we managed to spend time with friends and keep our spirits up. I for one am a fan of gaming and of real life “RL” time with people who matter!

Oh dear. I feel sorry for some of these kids. I can guarantee not all of them are addicted and just hearing those parents talking about their facebook group where 'others are experiencing the same thing up and down the country' reminds me of those parents that used to try and cure autism by forcing their children take take bleach enemas.

I have a friend whom his parents put him in one of those South Korean gaming addicts camp. He said he turned crazy there. Not all "therapies" are good for you.

Personally, I'm a gamer, not a streamer nor a competitive one. But I do play a lot of games, but I can assure you, that most people who are gamers are not toxic or as bad as society at large perceived it to be.

Much of today's gaming industry has been taken over by corporate interests, turning games into gambling, rewarding addictive behaviors, and normalizing bad social characteristics. It's not the gamer's fault, or gaming in general.

Gaming Disorder what a bunch of BS. Only problem with those kids is that their parents refuse to spend time with them, and they allow them on a freaking game instead of spending quality time or making them play outside. This is just parents shoving their kids on to the doctors because they don't want to take care of them, & it's a cash cow for the BS so called medical centers.
