This is what it's come to... I'm so addicted that I'm watching a kid who was probably born in 2010 talk about how to put my phone down

It’s way too easy to get sucked into video games or scrolling endlessly when you’re home alone. I love that he’s taking a stand against tech addiction! If you're feeling the same way, breaking kids free from screen addiction by Richard Bass has some awesome tips to help you take back your power and find that balance we all need.

Great job. I’ll make my son watch your TED talk. Motivation to break gadget addiction is different when it comes from a fellow kid.

I think the reason most people love technology is because technology mostly does what you tell it to do, and it's a way of escaping the real world.

Great and unsuspecting talk from this youngster. Well done Maxx.

It's so funny that this was recommended to me because I am addicted to similar things as mentioned, and I'm currently also developing a program for my windows desktop that automatically closes, and keeps closed, addicting software like google chrome, games and videos during certain times of the day. It will also open applications if it's something that I need to get done.

What's even funnier is the fact that I know habits take a long time to form/destroy and can't just be fully integrated in one go, so I was thinking of doing a 1% reduction in bad habits every couple of days til it gets to a point where I would be in control of those bad habits, similar to Max's 1 min/day route. It is better than brute forcing, in which case one might become overwhelmed by the changes and would probably have a low success rate in the long term. I got this 1% improvement idea from the book "Atomic Habits", it's an excellent read for ideas on habit formation and destruction.

It’s hard for me, I like calling my friends and playing games, that’s all I use tech for (for what I enjoy.) But as soon as they leave Im just in a cycle of scrolling, I always say to myself I’ll limit screen time but I just can’t. Even when I know that nature and the real world feels way better.

Whenever I use my cellphone, tablet or laptop computer I set a timer on my cellphone for how long I'm going to use them, if I'm going to watch a movie that last 90 minutes I just set the timer for 90 minutes, that way when my time is up, I just turn it off and leave it off all day/night long I don't like to watch TV all day long and I don't like to watch movies on my tablet/ laptop computer all day long or all night long because they will wear out the battery and the chargers.

I withdrew into the Xbox and alienated myself from any real life friends long ago. Trying to do this alone has been impossible 😕

Try being a middle school teacher these days.
They are all addicted. Parents know but expect us to keep them off their chrome books all day, so when they get home they can be babysat by their devices until they leave for school the next day. 😢🎉🎉🎉

I pretty much agree with everything this kid is saying but yikes the parent propaganda is off the walls you realize you can get addicted to ""outdoor activities"" too right?? There is a problem but this is not the solution.
Take it from not only common sense but from someone who is not addicted to screen time or video games (which is being intelectually dishonest co sidering thoes are Two different activitys)

Also dont blame the game for you not being able to controll yourself.
